Am I the only Whippet owner whos dog doesnt bark when someone rattles on the door.?

The only time he narks is when he wants some of his favourite grub.

He does however, react to doorbells on the telly! Why I dont know cos we have never had a doorbell!!

Daisy doesn't bark at the door either, just when she wants something or someone to play with :ermm:

My old dog Chip never barked annlouise - but Oscar is an excellent guard dog ..... he ALways barks and now Kobi joins in (w00t) but at least I feel safe.

Even when OH goes out, and the other night came in at around 12pm I heard Oscar barking when he came back in

none of mine bark at the door infacet they dont even lift there heads think its pritty normal for sightnounds infact I got a shock when I was at my frends as here dogs all bark and run round like somthing possesed when anyone goes to her door it would drive me mad

(w00t) My lot go mad when the door get's chapped (w00t) . Robbie and Gizmo like you lie on the back of the couch and look out with window :- " , if anyone walks past they go nut's and if they see a cat  ,,all hell breaks loose. Tam and Ricky join in  .

All six of my dogs go 'wappy' when someone opens our garden gate never mind reach the front door. If it's my car they hear (or OH's) then they start up this woo woo woo howling... you can hear it right across the glen.. very spooky (w00t)

Ella hardly uses her bark at all, when she needs to go out in the garden she just stands at the door hoping someone will see her waiting, in fact if we ever hear her bark we're wondering what's happened !!

Annie rarely barks and unless you've owned a terrier, you'll really appreciate that not making alot of noise is a lovely attribute of the whippet.

Alf (JRT) is on paperboy watch from about 6.30 every morning. It's a terrier thing, as soon as he hears the letterbox rattle hes off down the stairs at breakneck speed barking turns around and is straight back up to bed again and settles down for another half an hour kip, or until the postman arrives and we get a second helping of the early morning wake up call. (w00t) Really must get him out of this early morning ritual. Meanwhile laid back Annie just stretches her self out into the extra bed space that her mate has left and remains as quiet as a mouse throughout, bless her. :huggles:

Monty uses 'the silent technique' to ask to go out too!! This is fine until he tries it at night when we are asleep :- "

As for barking at the door, he rarely does, only when startled out of a deep sleep.

Ziggy only barks when he's playing or wants you to play which is a blessing because it would drive my OH nuts if he barked everytime the doorbell went (it's in constant use by the kids' friends). (w00t)

Milo only really barks when he wants you to play when he is in a mischievous mood. Oh and when he is barking in the garden I know he is annoying the cats through the cat flap

Its weird though how their barks are very different - I can usually tell when they are tormenting the cats too - the bark is totally different (w00t) :- "

Beau is the quietest of the three whippets we've had. It's a pity because he has the best bark. He has a great big deep bark, which he only uses to alert us to something unusal. He does have a funny little habit of having a little woof at treats he is particularly pleased with :clown:

Max had a bit to say for himself. He use to bark to be let in every morning at 6.30 on the dot. He would also speak on command.

Tesa had a high pitched shrill bark that could go right through you. She would use it to let you know when you hadn't done things to her liking. You didn't dare feed her late, because she would just stand her ground demanding her dinner (w00t)

Mine don't bark at the door usually, although if someone bangs the glass hard Josh give one bark and he has got a huge bark for a Whippet. The only time he really does bark is if there is a cat in the garden a few doors down.

Bradley only ever barks over the field if he is on lead and other dogs are playing chase.

Im grateful that Frankie doesn't bark at the door. One guardy Dobermann provides us with more than enough barking! Frankie will bark if he gets excited on a walk. Time will tell if Holly is a barker, she's not at the moment.

tia barks if she is on the lead & sees a other dog or if she is looking out of the window & sees a dog she will bark, doesn't bark if it's a cat just cries, she doesn't bark if anyone knocks at the door, but she does not like anything being pushed through the letterbox she jumps up and bites it, luckily its only the post!!!
