im a single father of three children on benifits and i have lurcher and terrier and my dogs are well looked after, and iv have whippets for a lot of years

Not everyone that are receiving benefits are doing so through choice ! some may be on benefits due to an illness and others through bad luck have had to go on to the now job seekers allowance or whatever benifit is available, but some people are there by choice  anyways I think if for what ever reason you can not keep your PET any longer then you should iether find the PET a very good home or go through whippet rescue who will go out of their way to find a good home for the whippet :huggles:

it makes no difference what breed of dog it is,whippet, greyhound or mutt.theres too many dogs being dumped for pathetic reasons.some of these folk shouldnt be allowed to own a stuffed toy nevermind a real living creature.and having pots of money is no guarantee of a kind loving home
well said

i'm glad that youre a good and kind owner, i dont have a problem with people on benefits, as i said i've been there. its just so upsetting every time you hear of a story of abuse or neglect. i'm sorry if i've caused offence to anyone, i dont mean to. i just want people to be more responsible for their actions. everyone on k9 has struck me as being so, and my remarks arent aimed at them. its about people who show no morality, i agree from wealthier walks of life too, towards any living being. i freely admit to being outspoken at times, dont blame me, blame my doggy madness :p !

ps did anyone see in yesterdays paper about that woman who killed her cat because it bit her, by putting it on a boil wash?...oooh, here i go again!

Yes I did read that and wonder at the mentality of these people  she has to be sick to do that to a dear dumb animal

Just hope Jake get's a very good home  Im on benefit's,,due to a car accident :( my kids dont run around causing havok,,my dogs are well fed and loved,,John works full time so we can race,,dont slag off folk who want to work but can't  We are not all sad git's who dont give a toss about kid's or the dogs.

i'm not having a go about benefits! i'm having a go about people who mistreat living beings! to reject/abuse/abandon any animal for spurious reasons is plain evil! i cannot speak about everyone, just my own experiences. i know handicapped people who work, healthy people who dont...its just where i live the bad outway the good, its not my intention to slander anyone. i'm sorry to hear about your accident, doubly sorry for causing offence. none was intended :(

i guess i shouldnt let emotion to take over, its just so heart breaking hearing these stories. i couldnt imagine parting with my dogs at all, nevermind willingly

Yes this is heartbreaking and should never happen to any dog / animal  . I love my dogs and treat them like family, but I know not everyone does :( .

Hope wee Jake get's a great family home and loves life like my 3 do

A lot of the problem lies though with people either not realising that rescues are there to help or being too afraid of being judged to approach one. I know of a couple of people personally that have had bad experiences when they approached other rescues.

Red, one of our old greyhounds, was turned away by a greyhound rescue simply because the RGT had contacted them on behalf of the owner and the rescue had a blanket policy of not dealing with the RGT in any shape or form. Nearly cost Red her life, thankfully they managed to try me as a last resort.

Lets face it, if I'm completely honest here, some rescues will not deal with trainers/breeders/racing people at all because they're against the whole training/breeding/racing way of life. Personally I'll work with anyone if it saves a dog, no matter what my personal opinions are it's the rescue side that matters most. Really riles me that personal ethics can get in the way of dogs' lives sometimes. :(

Yes, Jake was taken in to be PTS but that may have been a panic reaction and the owner was very happy to have him transferred to me instead - maybe she just didn't think anyone would take him as he'd bitten her - thankfully he ended up at the right vets!

heres a lighthearted tale that occured 4 months ago...

we had to chuck our old pc, so we put it outside to take to the tip at the weekend. the pc was out in the rain for two days. about 2 o'clock in the morning, my oh and i were woken up by a noise outside. we looked out the window to see one chap with the monitor, another with the pc,

So why did they take it?

1. Another set of chancers who wanted to make a fast buck?

2. Someone so hard up they felt they had to grab a chance to get a PC perhaps for their kids?

I don't know.

In my opinion you are (in part at least) after all you are the one that dragged this into this topic. You say you know people with a handicap well I lived with a person with a handicap (since I was born and I was the youngest in the family) for 26 years until I moved out to get married. I only hope that you are not as unfortunate to suffer a disiability (many people who were born able bodied do unfortunatly) because you might just meet someone who does not understand your misfortune. Get back on topic this is about a dog who needs help and I for one hope that he find's a loving home with someone able bodied or not.

right, lets get this straight, i was not having a pop! i understand where youre coming from, really i do. as for disabilities...i am in awe of their pride, courage and sheer guts to face life head on, regardless of whats thrown their way. i , like you, have personal experience with those less fortunate.

i totally agree with you about the subject wandering off course, my fault i'm afraid!

lets get back to shared ground.

everyone here is rooting for the little guy to go home to a family who'll treat him with all the love and attention he deserves, and the same for every pet who's found themselves in the same plight :luck: :luck: :luck:

:D Have to agree with you there lalena Hope he finds a real loving home :)

thought i would try and put the record straight, the reason the dog was going to be p.t.s is because it badly bit it's owner i think it's something a lot of owners would have done the same, my father allways said if a dog bites the hand that feeds it get rid, so i don't see what all the fuss is about it could have been a lot worse and bit the kids just my opinion
