Hope Pheonyx doesn't mind me copying this pic - this dog is obviously a non ped and was left in a vets to be pts (he's 1yr old).  It really sickens me that there are people in our sport doing this.

His story's here http://www.k9community.co.uk/forums/index....topic=14278&hl=

Just as well there's people like Pheonyx and Whippet Rescue that take on these dogs and just makes me think how much such rescues are taken for granted.

shame what a lovely dog

thought i would try and put the record straight, the reason the dog was going to be p.t.s is because it badly bit it's owner i think it's something a lot of owners would have done the same, my father allways said if a dog bites the hand that feeds it get rid, so i don't see what all the fuss is about it could have been a lot worse and bit the kids just my opinion
I made my original posts with the information I had at the time, which was correct at the time. Having spoken to the original owner afterwards (she contacted me after seeing the threads on here as I had been unable to contact here on the telephone number I had for her) I was told what had happened. However, I was told that she was bitten when she tried to separate a scrap between Jake and another dog. You're implying that this was a direct attack on the owner.

I did not want to comment further other than to say that Jake now has a new home but please,if you're going 'put the record straight' then do so with the full facts. If what I was told is actually incorrect then I'd appreciate being given the full details.

I should have also added:

I know that Jake's original owner was very angry and upset about comments that had been made on here and that's why I then came back on to add more information. If I have offended anyone by putting Jake's details on here then I can make no apologies. I came on K9 to ask for help in an urgent situation with the facts that were given to me at the time and I would do so again.

I have had a great deal of support from the whippet community here in the past and I know that should an emergency arise I would be able to ask for, and receive help again. The support given to Phoenyx Animal Refuge has been greatly appreciated.

I am very glad that Jake was entrusted to me, as Phoenyx Animal Refuge, and I hope that I will be able to help other whippets in need of a home in the future.

However, (and this is a general comment), I am a rescue - not a breeder, trainer or racer - and I will always act in the best interests of the animal as far as I am able to do so. I will put my personal feelings aside if it helps save an animal (any animal) and have done so on many occaisions.

Good luck Jake  ,,we hope you love your new home  ,,

Im glad there is a rescue who can help with whippets if they need to be rehomed for what ever reason  I had a biter who bit Rachel when she was only 1 yrs old,,he was rehomed and it broke my heart. He was the 3 legged dog who went to opens with us and his litter brother was Georges Choice , a child comes first in my opinion and all the best to Jake

PEOPLE GO ON ABOUT GREYHOUND PERSONS DUMPING THERE DOGS BUT THE SPORT OF WHIPPET RACEING IS ON AND OFF THE SAME.THATS WHY PEOPLE ARE LOOKING IN TO THE TWO SPORTS TO SEE IF ITS AS BAD AS PEOPLE THINK OR SAY IT IS,IF THEY FINED OUT IT IS THEY PROBABLY BAN IT.(THATS ALL WE NEED)
Who is looking into it george?

All dogs are an important part of our society and many value their companionship.

Responsible dog ownership means accepting full responsibility for our dogs in terms of their needs and the standards for dog management that are expected by our community and our family life.

I have no doubt in my mind that when the dogs owner made the decision she did (after he had bitten her) it was the right one, the owner is not new to whippets she has had them for alot of years, i would of probably made the same decision if i had children in the house, even though it would be a very hard one to make, i am sure it was for her too.

I have seen the after affects of owners been bitten by there dogs, one a child getting her face torn to pieces and another in Devon last year when a whippet ripped its owners hands to shreds, on both occasions there was no reason for the dogs to act in this manner.

Maybe if our government had tighter laws on owning dogs we would not have strays or unwanted animals, they should take a leaf out of the Australian State Governments laws and insist on all dogs be registered by 8 weeks of age and the wearing of registration tags.

HERE IS A LINK TO THERE LAWS HAVE A READ LINK TO STATE LAWS

I am pleased the dog has found a good home and must congratulate Phoenyx on all her good work ..Well Done
