With the last Champs coming up I wondered how many of you get as much bend racing into your dog as possible ?? ...........There are quite a few novices that will have only done a bend when they cleared, but as its so hard to get them round a regular bend what do people do ?? .........My old boy cleared at 11 months on a bend but never grasped the fact that he wasn't to run soo straight then soo wide, so I never bend raced him due to the fact he would cause himself and others possible injuries :b ........Seeing as sooo many of the youngsters that'll be entered for the bend champs have been running straights for ever it seems a bit scarey (w00t) .........I saw a very experienced bend bitch run straight last year taking 2 of the other racers with her  ........it didn't go down well .........

We are planning to put a few bends up before the champs to give Spry and the other dogs some more experience of a bend all being well, I agree it must be hard sometimes to give them some practise if you have nowhere to do it, if I didn't have access to a bend track I would put her round the greyhound track(even though the ground is different it is better than no practise at all )IMO of course.

Spry loves a bend but if I thought she wasn't ready or not with the idea of a bend I wouldn't put her on one either, it would be dangerous for her and everybody else.

Do you think there will be a weight group not exceeding 45lb for Kane

Was chatting to someone (June McDonald I think) about it at Oxford; she said there are fewer bends than ever being run these days, due to ground conditions.

I think there is also limited space also Elizabeth sometimes on grounds we can run a bend and sometimes not due to sharing with the cricketers, don't want to get clunked on the head by a corky ball (w00t) :- "

Harvel are to commence bend running at our next meeting. We are looking forward to that as a preamble to the next Champs. I do suspect though that Bramble will be in season any day now so the plan for her has probably been blown out of the water for this year  . Zorro will have a go though :D . A longer distance will suit him.

Oh no! I do hope she will be able to participate in our fun run in September, Spry purposely had her season early and missed the open so she would be fit to meet Bramble :- " :teehee:

Spry is the same for distance she loves it, she likes to build her speed and she sticks to the bend like glue

Hi Lesley. Yes its fingers crossed for Bramble. In any event we will be with you as arranged, no problem. If she can't run then my ZORRO will thrash you. :p We are looking forward to it. It will be a good day. Plenty of people to meet. And those pies!!

Taking all challenges in his stride

LAMPINGMAN (w00t)

Awww thanks Chris i knew you wouldn't let me down :D thrash The Spry      you're funny guy you know that

I'll give her a couple of pies to give you a chance

Its a shame as bend racings good fun..........We'll be doing the curve and some bends at Cotswolds club racing just to get our club dogs ready ........as I hate seeing the inexperienced dogs causing problems at the first bend .......well saying that 4 years ago my dogs sister who had been put on the bend for weeks to get her ready for the bend champs decided she was going to run straight :b ........she had been primed for a bend, .......she injuried one of the dogs that she knocked and poor Joan was shouted at by the dogs owner ......

Also Maidstone has a Club bend meeting which is a 240yd bend on the 10th sept, before there open which is on 24th sept.

Do the peds still run on grass

dee

hi dee yes all of the peds races are on grass.

we have been very lucky so far that even though the grass is dried out everywhere else, on our tracks the clubs have done a fantastic job of keeping a good green covering.

am i right in thinking you run on sand?

Yes we race on sand usually at greyhound stadiums as our bend season starts about mid September and runs through the winter till about the end of March.

do you have much trouble with their feet, as i read somewhere greyhounds have trouble with their nail beds.

I personally haven't had any trouble with our dogs feet, but i always wash the dogs feet when coming off the tracks i am sure others have had trouble and will reply
