What a horrible thing to have happen. Try not to let it prey too much on your mind though Sarah. Finn was attacked and bitten by a terrier when he was still a very young dog. Like Penny we had to leave him at the vet to be stitched up and he was very sorry for himself for a few days afterwards. I was afraid he would have significant mental and physical scars but neither has proved to be the case. Although he had a nasty flank wound you can hardly see where it was now, and he is still the friendliest, most trusting of dogs. It may well be the case that you have been more traumatised by the experience than Penny. Huge hugs to you and gentle, healing licks to the lovely Penny from the boys.

what a horrid experience :( but am glad that Penny is coming home tonight

Poor Penny, poor you :(

Hope she is ok soon

How frightening for you sarah, i think its just the shock and im sure both you and the gentle Penny will be fine once she is home You just feel so helpless I know

i hope both of you recover from this experience, and that she suffers no lasting mental scars x

What a horrible thing to happen, im not surprised you are upset by the unpleasant experience. Hopefully Penny will be fighting fit again soon.

thank goodness your dogs safe and it just shows you how cleaver she is to run and hide and come to you when everythings clear think on the posative that shes a very smart girl and did the right thing hiding till it was safe. the man has to be your choice and if you dont want to call the poice i would insiste her reinforces his gat and puts some strong lock on it at the very least we have ahd a few dogs attacked here but they allwas seam to bounce back just remeber when she goes out with you again to carry on as normal and dont stress or dewell on it and she wont. give her a hug from us she will be a bit groggy tonight but will soon me back to normal and even with there short coats istamazing how realy nasty looking wouds go to almost nothing.

What a horrible experience, I'm not surprised you are in shock. Loads of good wishes for Penny, I hope she's home soon and non the worse for her experience :luck:

It does sound like a genuine accident that the dogs got out, and at least the other owner sounds as though he is doing all he can to make amends. Not much comfort to you, but I bet he'll be much more careful in future.

Some Rescue Remedy for both you and Penny would be a good idea!

Poor you two. Thankfully I have never had an experience anything laike that and hope I never do. It is horrible having to leave them at the vets. Connie looked so sorrowful when I had to leave her recently.

How is penny sarah , hope all went well for her xxx

this is the sort of thing I dread, so i really feel for you.( had my little terrier PTS a few years ago after a random attack by a staff, my dog was beside me on a lead too)

Really hope Penny makes a quick recovery and that she forgets about the experience quickly. xx

Thank you so much for all of your kind wishes. Penny is now back from the vets she was a little drowsy for a while but looks a little more alert now, she keeps on crying every now and then. She is getting lots of cuddles and kisses. This was a big shock to my mum and sister who had been away for the day shopping and they came back to this both of them are very upset. She has had what looks like 10-11 stitch and the vet said she has to go back in about 10-12 days for them to get removed and she is only to get gentle exercise. She is getting lots of cuddles and kisses from us all :huggles:

My dad phoned the man after we got back from the vets with her and the man spoke to my dad for a while he couldn't apologise more when my dad went to meet him as he said he would pay the vet bills he also gave Penny a bag of treats and a toy.

I've felt ill all day after this, I don't think i've ever ran as fast to try and get her! Still feeling rather shaken up and off my food. I am just so relieved it never turned out worse by getting hit by a car etc... Every time I look at her I feel I just want to cry, I keep thinking what if i'd never went out, or if id went a different route, I know that wont do any good, especially since i've walked that route for 6 years.

Im thinking of all the dogs we know and ones in the street that when she is feeling better she can meet as im worried that this could effect her mentally is she is a very sensitive girl and so sweet she has never had an aggresive bone in her body and didn't even try to fight back. She is looking very sorry for herself and her eyes are a bit watery it looks as though she is crying :(

Here is the damage, hopefully it will heal well enough:

Thanks again for all the lovely messages :huggles:

sarah im so shocked at the size of the wound, give penny a hug from me cause shes always been one of my favorite girls on here and i feel for you both :( :huggles: :huggles:

Oh Sarah, what a terrible experience for you both ... and I always think that Penny must be one of the gentlest girls on K9. I hope she recovers quickly from her wounds and you both get over the shock of what's happened :huggles:
I'm sorry to read this and a bit lost for the right words :( , so can only echo Jill's sentiments above.

Have been thinking of deterants and think a well aimed pepper spray will give us just enough time to run for it . We had to run the other week (me and my four dogs ) from a big pit bull type and I was very scared to say the least .

Poor Penny :(

Like Trish, I am shocked at the size of the wound. As the dogs are capable of inflicting damage like that in an unprovoked attack I wonder if it may be prudent to have a chat with the owner to ensure that nothing like this can ever happen again!!

Accidents don't happen, they are caused, and this time it was because someone left the gate open (allegedly) ..... I don't think these dogs shouldn't be out in the garden together

I do hope Penny has a comfortable night and try not to worry too much, you are in shock yourself and you need to take it easy for a few days :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

So, so sorry that this has happened. Please give Penny and yourself a big hug from the Whippet girls here. It certainly doesn't make it Ok but at least the man sounds like he is very sorry. Perhaps show him that picture of the wound so that he realises just how nasty his dogs can be. Sending healing thoughts to you both.

Oh sarah, i'm so sorry this has happened :( how horrific for you and for penny :(

Wishing penny a speedy recovery :huggles: give penny a gentle hug from me and heres some for you :huggles: :huggles:
