 Ah Hah back from the Welsh Valleys then are we?

Just read the small print of any that looks good (i.e. cheap) as there are usually so many exclusions so it becomes almost worthless!

I have got the young man in question one of those blue tassle things you wanted to go with his blue collar. :*

The supermarkets seem to be having a price war on pet insurance, my neighbours have a Bulldog with Tesco at £7 per month - very cheap - they have been to the vets time after time with different problems and Tesco have paid up every time with no quibbles.

I don't think they will get it from anywhere for that price next year!

my lots insured by direct line, been with them almost three years now and the premium as gone up by a quid per dog. £9.00 per dog and my 10 years old is £10.00. worth checking out for yours.

argos were the cheapest for me especially considering the level of cover :)

Mine are with direct line too except they are both 10 quid per dog. I wonder why yours are cheaper Pat seeing as we only live a few miles apart??? I got a cheaper quote with More Than but we're staying with direct line for the moment as they said they'd pay for Lennys castration next year (250 quid cos they haven't dropped (w00t) ). More than also have no upper age limit :)

I did a quote with Tesco which was cheaper but didn't offer as much cover per condition (£2500 whereas direct line is 4000). There is an option to change the amount per condition with Tesco but then the premium was more than direct line.

Sorry for waffling, I think I'd try direct line or more than, just make sure you read the policies carefully!!! Never looked at argos but heard they are also good :)

Edited to add: I realise why yours is cheaper Pat, cos you've got more dogs so probably get more discount :- "

dont know why mine is cheaper,i pay £37.00 per month for all 4 dogs,£9.00 per whippet and £10.00 for molly,i did ring them and asked what was there best deal they could do for me with 4 dogs, dont know if that gave me any discount.

Thought I'd better add that you have to get the advanced policy with direct line because the standard one only covers each illness for 12 months

i have been with M&S 2 years with 2 dogs 10.00 per month each dog no excess Kass has had meningitis twice in that period bills amounting to around £3800.00+ no excess if i had been with direct line or petplan i would of paid £700.00 in excess's plus they would of kicked me out after 1 year with a dog with a pre excisting problem in other words uninsurable if you have a dog that is healthy a cheap basic insurance seems a good idea until something like i experienced happens then a lifetime policy is worth every penny my advice is look at the policy and exclusions then at the price i am sure my premium will rise this renewnal but i will stick with M&S

 I've just had renewal letters from M&S for two of mine, one of which has had no claims, and M&S have removed the 'no excess' part and we now have to pay the first £50.

I'm going to phone them today and see if this is a mistake because we had arranged the 'no excess' on all six of our dogs.

Think this happened to someone else but they were told that the no xs still applied, think they're just trying it on  get them rung.

On the subject of direct line, they have changed their policy, well added and advanced policy where the fees of 6000 are covered for the life of the illness and you only pay the xs once. Might be a lot more expensive though

Your lucky that you joined M&S when you did, all ne premiums for pedigree dogs have increased, I was quoted £200 per dog, it may be a good policy but I just can't afford that!

Look at the bottom of your policy, in the endorsements section you should see that the vet excess is NIL. They've worded the letter very badly so everyone who gets the renewal thinks from the letter that they have been given the excess back, but in reality if you look at the endorsements you'll see it's still there.

I'm staying with M&S. Even with the rise it's still cheaper than PetPlan (just did a quote to double check) - Pet Plan with a £65 excess was still £2 more a month than I'm now paying for my most expensive dog with NIL excess. They have paid out every claim so far. Their old age policy is the best, and they give a 10% discount for each additional dog which PetPlan doesn't. Cover is £7000 per year. I did some deep research about 3 years ago and there was still only a few companies out there that did cover for life rather than a set amount of time or £ per condition. What they've paid me back this year alone is probably more than my total payments have been for all my dogs through their lifetimes!

I'm not trying to sway anyone, but PLEASE read the small print on the cheaper policies. You might find yourself in a bind if you end up with a long term condition and they wont' pay out after a year - and then you can't change to another company either as it's pre-existing.

Whatever policy you get make sure the cover is for LIFE, and if possible the amount of money is reinstated each year. Some policies have a maximum amount per condition and although it may seem a lot, some conditions over a lifetime can rack up a lot.

Just my .02

Wendy

Totally agree with Wendy the thing is everyone qoutes £ per dog per month and only seem to think of the monthly outlay but if the worst does happen like it did for me a no excess lifetime policy is a nobrainer i worked many years in a private hospital and witnessed many patients left high and dry by insurance that did not cover enough and they always said "but it was such a good deal we didnt read the exclusions" a policy that is not for life is a short term fix if you do need to use it you are then stuffed for getting cover for your dog once the policy comes to term they are false economy

M&S and more than (though more than offers slightly less cover), there is one i saw in the vets that was cheap (not pet plan) and it had good cover. Though slightly more the best policies are thoughs that offer say £6000 per year but treat the condition no matter how many years. A lot of policies only offer say £6,000 per condition, which if its diabetes or something like that can get v expensive

thank you every one for all the comments it looks like its a matter of getting on the phone and doing a pro and con list, i deally i would like both dogs on the same policy and tess is getting an old girl she will be 8 in feb so need to make sure she is well covered.

will let everyone know the outcome as soon as i find a good one.

thanks again

chelle and blue

meant to say also that i phoned M&S yesterday and they have told me that seeing as blue hasnt had a claim this year i can goto the website and get a new quote for 10month as its a starter sweetner and nothing says that i cant restart his insurance :- "
