We had a appeal from our local vet asking for blood donors, due to a recent blood donor case.So i,ve registered Peter who is very healthy, big strong whippet.

You never know when one of your dogs might need a donor and can save your dog life.

Thats a great gesture Dawn,if it helps just one dog it is worth it  :huggles:

Well done Dawn , what a good thing to do ,

Extra treats for Peter of course :- "

Let us know how he gets on :huggles:

Thats great  do let us know how it goes...and if you were sqeamish :sweating:

that such a good idea il have to enquire about it at our vets :) good on you dawn :D

I'd never thought that dogs needed blood transfusions :- " Peter's a great guy  any poorly dog would stand the best chance of recovery with his blood I'm sure - that's really good of you (and Peter) to do it Dawn :huggles:

Our requirements in British Columbia are quite strict, they have a minimum weight (50lbs) so it's tough getting a whippet in. (Not trying to say anything about Peter's weight here :b , I suspect it's different requirements)

Greyhounds on the other hand, are ideal. They tend to be very calm, big enough and there's not much hair to shave.

The hospitals that collect are good to their donors - offering free annual blood work, microchipping and general health exam, plus a bunch of bonus coupons for pet stores and things. Interestingly enough, they don't take dogs on a raw diet.

I have seen a program on tv where the hospital had two retired race greyhounds "on staff" as donors.

If its means saving the smallest dog,i,m sure Peter could help :D :D

He will be on call now,the vets will called whoever they can get hold of first and be there soon as possible,i and the vets will not do this unless Peter has got plenty of blood to give.
