I think you are being a traitor taking pics of other breeds - whippets only!

Good luck with it all though I think you will be pretty busy Wales but hopefully you will fit my three in too, will you have your camara at Midland Counties tomorrow?

The foxie and the border seem to be leaning back instead of up and over their fronts - perhaps underfoot is too soft?  Have you tried a thin, dense foamrubber underneath the backdrop rather than something thick and spongy?  Just a thought.

As I have not yet got a table for the little 'uns to stand on (on my shopping list for Midland Cos tomorrow), they were actually standing on a cage which had a piece of wood on the top. That proved to be a bit slippy, so the only thing I had was a bit of vetbed to put on it- henc e the "spongy" look! I think the Wire and the Border were suffering from "stiff" terrier syndrome, but both owners have ordered prints, so they can't look too bad :))

I think the photos look brilliant Louise - you must be chuffed to bits with them - especially as the owners have ordered prints.

Nice photo's louise, but without trying too sound petty or critical - I think the backdrop cloth could do with being a bit lighter - it seems to dominate the pictures a bit - maybe it's the camo' / marbling effect of it, I can't put my finger on, but it does tend to take over the subjects a bit.

I like the wire haired - I don't know what Image PS you use, but maybe try the cloning tool to lose the lead?

Other than that, Wish you the very best of luck - not that you'll need it, you'll do just fine. :cheers: :luck: :luck:

Thanks for your comments. I think backdrop colurs are always a problem. It's hard trying to fing something that will suit a wide range of different breeds. The green one is double sided (Fieldstone & Pebble don't you know!), so is quite versatile - I can't think of a single breed that'll look bad against green! It's gotta be better than the awful blue-cloudy-sky that we see so often :p I do have a couple of alternative backdrops as I like to think I can give a choice to the owners.

I use Photoshop CS2, and generally remove leads with the clone stamp BUT I decided that the Foxie looked better with the lead left on - they are such an "artificial" breed, it's obvious it's being strung up. A more "natural" breed would look better minus the lead. Just me with my artistic eye - 'tis all about balance :thumbsup:

I had a request from Erika Tonder, editor of the Sighthound Magazine, to supply pictures of the first prize winners from Whippet Club of Wales to be included in a future issue.

I have spoken to the club secretary and he has agreed that it is a great idea.

Let's hope we get some great shots! :thumbsup:

I know what you're saying about that 'cloudy blue sky' puke inducing background - it can be so annoying, like your dog is in heaven.

Forgetting the issue over the soft footprint - that's something you can work on, but I'd say get a variety of back drop colours to use. The lighter coloured dogs tend to disappear in the background, where as blacks and dark coloureds work well with tat particular colour scheme.

You can (And best to for error correction ) shoot in RAW and if your camera supports it, use RAW & JPG(med compressed format).

If using Photoshop or similar, you could always lose any background and layer the dog on to a new neutral background that you've created.

Lana ( Aslan ) is also a photographer by trade so all her comments are from one experianced snapper to another :cheers: No competition though with her being just a little too far away :lol: :(
