Eddie threw himself/jumped/slipped off the big bank in front of our house yesterday morning into the road, after a cat. He slipped past my hubby at the front door (man delivering my phone had knocked) and that was that.

For those of you who've visited us you'll know how high that bank is, luckily the cat took the low route, *only* about an 8 foot drop - which for an old lad like Eddie is quite bad enough. He landed on his chin, and presumably his knees buckled, and he slid across the gravelled tarmac.

LUCKILY, and I do mean luckily, he's *only* ripped his knees and chin up. The car coming (because there had to be one didn't there?!) was going slowly, and easily stopped and avoided Ed.

It was just after half 8 and I was just getting dressed, and wished I hadn't been as if I'd still been in bed Eddie would have been in with me, and safe.

Anyway, I flushed his wounds well with warm salt water, and sprayed them with derma cleanse and applied derma gel - there were no bones broken, and he's not lame - though of course he's a bit stiff today! I've got some Inflamex here, which is a Devil's Claw and Yucca mix designed to relieve pain and inflammation and that seems to have helped I think. All seems to be healing ok, and the vet was happy to leave as is.

But honestly, I thought elderly dogs were easier on the nerves.... :teehee:

Poor Eddie :( ,,looks nasty :( and sore :( , Dog's forget their age when cat's are about

Hope he is feeling a lot better very soon :luck:

silly old Eddie, they are always pups at heart, hope he is feeling better soon :luck: :huggles: :luck:

Poor old chap. Looks as if the wounds are not too deep, but he'll be a bit stiff for a while. Sounds as if he was lucky though. I think some special treats are called for, to help restore his dignity.

 :huggles:

(His nose looks so much like a whippet we had - can we see a full picture of him, please? I love seeing the old 'uns (and the puppies, and the ones in between!))

:( Poor boy, but thank goodness it wasn't worse

So nice to hear about Eddie again Anne...I have missed hearing about him. Cor.......It's good he didn't do a nasty  , but the brain is still in full working order I see. He looks fabulous despite his war wounds. I think he must be secretly proud of himself ;)

THANK YOU

He's wonderful. Those pictures just make me grin. :))

I have this theory that whippets never grow up, they always stay puppies at heart (sounds rather like me :b )

Labradors, say, become serious and responsible far too young (I grew up with labs and love them dearly), which

makes them so suitable for guide dogs, I suppose.

I can't imagine a whippet taking on that role (w00t) and I wouldn't like anyone to try. It would mean having to break

their spirit first, imo.

I think he deserves a nice pigs ear to take his mind off his wounds :D

Thanks Jo, I reckon you're right! He's stomping around like a right little macho thug this morning, snuffling underneath cars for cats....Still, least he's healing ok and doesn't seem overly bothered by his wounds - until I clean them of course! Doing it just before a meal works best as he's too busy scoffing to lick the gel off then

I must try and get on more often, I miss my whippy fixes! Been so busy though - well I'm sure we all know the feeling of trying to juggle life and the dogs plus at least one forum! :teehee:

LOL! I would have given him a pig's ear but he spent most of the day being a biscuit taste tester so I think he's been reasonably well pandered too :D

When he was originally picked up the vet said 15+ possibly. Since then my vet reckons somewhere between 12 and 15 is probably about right. Definitely old enough to know better! o:)

Thanks to all for your kind comments, and Eddie says a particular thank you for all the yummy food suggestions! (w00t)

He's healing nicely by the looks of it, so fingers crossed that continues for my daft wee lad

We also wish Eddie to get better! Poor doggie :( Oh, that cats... My dogs also like to keep cats fit :D

My Pollie has wound too :( :( :( She had hurt her side upon the fence, while running :( Our vet had to to put in 3 stitches. But she stand the operation with fortitude! And now has benefit, everyone feel sorry for her.

Poor Eddie glad to hear he's healing well :huggles: :huggles:
