Are going to make an appointment at the vets tomorrow. Since his testicles are so far up, I have decided it is safest to have them removed because of the high risk of cancer. Bless him, he does't have a clue what I'm up to...

How old is he? The danger of cancer is not imminent if he is still a puppy. It only becomes an issue when he is over 4years old. I would wait until at least 18 months before considering such a invasive op.

What ever you decide :luck: :luck: :luck:

Sending lots of cuddles for Mac. :huggles: and Good Luck too. :luck: :luck:

Awwww poor thing ..... but doooooo read what Seraphina wrote

I have seen the vet today and she agreed with me to have it done sooner rather than later. It is not likely that the testicles will come down on their own, because he is so muscular and tight back there. They are also so far up, you can't feel them at all.

My mum's dog had his one, which was further down, removed at about two. It was discovered tumours already, and they had them removed. Unfortunately they must have missed a bit, because the tumoures spread, and the vet found a large tumour next to his heart some years later. Because the tumour would have killed the dog within a few weeks, my mum decided it was for the best to not wake him up from the anaesthetic. I don't even want to take the risk with Mac, that is why I want to have it done as early as possible. I do feel sorry for him though... :(

i agree with you cathrine  ...i would do exactly the same...good luck :luck:

Will tell as soon as it is done  Tuesday morning...

OH will have to take him, because I can't get away from work (just started a new job). My poor OH has already got sympathy pains.... Hope he will be alright - it is always that risk, isn't it? Neutering the dog, not OH, I mean....

Do you know I knew you had Mac but missed where you got him, and I thought he was older - I must be getting senile (w00t)

Anyway - we all make the decisions that we think are best for our dogs so good luck to Mac on Tuesday - he'll be fine. :luck:

Good luck in your new job too - is it still with horses?

Good luck for Mac :luck: Im sure he will be fine. Let us know how he is :D

Any news on Mac yet Cathrine please. :luck: :luck:

He is going on Tuesday, so still a few days left.

Rae, I am still in racing. I went back to my old job - it is only 10 min from the other place. I got Mac through his breeder Gary Bailey (who posts under Mutley on Non - ped Whippets) His brother got him as a young pup, since he was too stocky for racing. Unfortunately (for them, not me) they didn't have time for a young dog, so he was rehomed. I am still regularly in touch with Gary, which is great!

Have just got home from the vets and everything is fine. Mac is sulking with the big "lampshade" around his head, especially after he peed on it....

At the moment he is asleep on the sofa, well wrapped in to a fleece blanket -_-

The vet said because of his thin skin, it is a bit more bruising than usual ( it shows better as well because of the short coat) but he didn't seem to be too uncomfortable.

So tonight it's scrambled eggs on the menu and we will look through the fridge to see if we can find a nice treat. Otherwise we will have to go to the shop..

The worst news is no off lead exercise for ten days. He will tear the house down!!

Awwwwww :huggles: :huggles: to Mac, hope he heals quickly :luck: :luck: :luck:
