Hey that makes 3 of us. :) But then I haven't been near a show ring in years so I'm hardly likely to ;) .

Well done Tanya and the dogs. May there be many, many more wins.

neither had i but sure glad to have met and entered under them!!! (w00t) still cant grasp this who and what judge to enter under thingy???? :teehee:

glad judges see what i see , my beautiful dogs

thank you lillybet for eddie too  , much of it has to go to his breeder , you certainly bred a cracker there!!!  he even had the gob going outside the ring wanting to go in!!!! :- " well he did have to play the fool before going in thankfully and not IN the ring!!! so thanks again hun , the edster done you proud too :huggles:

with the £5 jessie won in the stakes class she then bought herself another new bed!!!! before you lot start a whippet girly can never have enough comfy beds!!!! it was her money to spend, she earnt it , she spent it!!had the treat stall been there i think i may have had to then buy in bulk!!!!

I dont know anything about showing...............but i presume that judges

have to earn the right to judge and its not something just anyone can do

properly.

But do these post's mean that only certain judges are worthy of judging

whippets and some are more suitable to another breed

I would have thought that a judge is a judge and they were all responsible

enough to judge any breed...........It's a bit worrying if they dont

Oh another new bed at Tooty Tower's, wonder if that's really needed

or maybe Pride could steal it for her daughter

Ann - at Open shows in particular you will often get a judge who has another hound breed, but it is not actually a whippet person - although yes they do need to know the breed to be judging it.

It's always interesting to know what judges do for when you are looking to enter Open shows in the future

Thanks for making things a bit clearer.............i didn't know if

i was reading it right :)

And meant to say they may not always even have another hound!

i think most people when showing want to win under a breed judge, cos a breed judge knows the breed inside out and you tend to respect their decisions,as theyre based on an in depth knowledge of that breed, whereas an allrounder doesnt neccessarily have an in depth knowledge of a breed, maybe just a passing aquaintance with them. ;) there are judges id be proud to get a 4th from in a large class of good dogs, and theres judges that i wouldnt bother to enter under as in the time theyve been in the ring theyve shown both by their judging and by the dogs theyve shown that they know very little about anything.so no a judge isnt a judge.theres judges and theres judges. and also theres wins and theres wins.a win in a poorly contested class of average dogs isnt like a win at a championship show under a breed judge with lots of top quality animals there.thats the test of a good dog if it can compete successfully at top levels with top specimens of the breed. :) there are also some well known all rounders whom id be proud to be placed by as they have a terrific knowledge of a number of breeds gained over a great many years of experience.people tend to just post about good wins at open shows when theyve done something special like winning bpis or even bis,cos theve been under a breed judge won that then been under the group judge or the allrounder and won under them too. i think thats probably why people start threads on here about wins at ch shows and placings rather than at open shows, because a win or placing at a ch sh is an achievement in itself and is the true testing ground of a dogs potential.having said that when i showed dobes round our area we had the top breeder in the breed to compete with and most classes were in the thirties or forties.at ch shows they were higher still.it was an achievement to just get pulled out in classes like those.

Lets get this straight. It looks to me that rls22 was trying to put down these results by posting "Thanks, cavaliers and borzois". Should people not even go to a show if their classes are not being judged by a breed judge. Surely the show organisers can't find a judge for every type of dog!! The fact that the judges were not whippet judges did not need to be pointed out unless of course someone is a tad jealous. :p :p :p

Tanyas won lets not try and bring this thread down again otherwise the offending posts will be removed and the offenders warn levels upped.

I enjoy showing under all-rounders and non-breed judges. A few weeks ago I showed under a judge, not a whippet judge, but I thought his judging was spot on, not because I won, I got a 2nd, but I could follow what he was doing and so could other people watching. My friends who I show with are mostly gundog people and they told me afterwards that they could understand exactly his placings and what a good job he had done. His critique has appeared in the dog press and you can tell by reading it that he has studied the breed.

I suppose I grew up in a different era when we had more sanction and limit shows and invariably the judges would be all-rounders, the number of dogs they judged in a year were immense, I would rather have Judy de Casembroot's opinion on my dogs that any other judge she gave cc's in Whippets but was really an all-rounder.

Well done on your wins Tanya, I've only one more show between now and Christmas, which is a bit scarey.

Jenny

 well done

Well it looked wrong then.

I was just curious who was judging - Tanya gave me the names, so I looked up what dogs they had. I am a regular at shows, so am interested in who's judging what and what they like etc.

We go to plenty of shows that are not judged by whippet judges, it is a common thing, so it was not meant as derogatory comment. You shoun't be so quick to tar everyone with the same brush.

And really don't think I'm jealous - we do well enough with our own dogs

I've heard people say that showing under an all rounder is fairer because the judge is less likely to be influenced by who is on the end of the lead. So there are good and bad thoughts about all rounder judges v breed specialists.

And yes people do need to know which judges put up whippets IMO, it can help to decide which shows to enter.

I would just like to say do all the champ shows next yr and make that boy a champion

We have bred I.G's for around 16yrs , won cc's reserve cc's , joint top pup one yr and took a junior warrant under the old points system and I think I am right in saying had the first I.G junior warrant winner under the new points system.

Also many group and one BIS at open level.

I passed my CSI judging diploma with a credit and judged at open show level.

In recent yrs due other things happening we have not showed much at champ show level but Eddie will be a star for Tanya and she deserves to do well as she works so hard .He is quality girl and I am pleased you will campaign him at top level :luck: :luck:

lillibet

:b next time then i win at a champ show i must remember the challenge!!!!!!! mr mcmanus was excellent to show under and really said some lovely things about him as you saw in dog world!! off top of head was it p57?? not that it would ever stick ion my mind!!! :- "

it was great to get the results sun , and also the champ show wins esp under charlotte boyle and her mothers comments outside the ring meant a lot!!!

i am aiming to show a lot more next year with both eddie and the amazing miss alice! the whippets will have to go when the hounds and toys are on same day, i simply cant do everything , but the edster is showing himself to be what we already know lillybet, he is our little star!!

i still have alot to learn about the who and where to show scene but im sure i will get there

thank you all who have made such nice comments :huggles:
