Hi all,
We have done lots of research and think our dog may have dog dermatitis.
We are struggling financially at the minute so are unable to access the vets until money smooths over in February.
Has anyone else's dog suffered this that could offer up some advice please?
She will be going to the vets first thing once we can afford but for the time being we just need some advice, it's horrible watching her constantly nibbling at her self!!
Thank you in advance

I'm wondering what the white bits are... any ideas? It's not generally possible to diagnose skin conditions so ideally you do need to see a vet - and the longer it's delayed, the longer she'll be uncomfortable and it could end up being harder to treat. Have you checked whether you might qualify for PDSA treatment - or is there any way you could borrow the money for a consultation? Or, if you have a good relationship with your vet, they might be happy to take a quick look at any photos you send them.

Just a thought - is it at the base of her tail? There is a condition called 'stud tail' which is more common in males but can happen in females - you might want to look that up if you haven't already.

The RSPCA offer advice on what options there are if you can't afford treatment: Veterinary Financial Assistance In Your Local Area | RSPCA - RSPCA - rspca.org.uk

Other members might have some suggestions for what you could safely use to ease any discomfort (bearing in mind she's likely to ingest it).

Have you any idea what might be causing it? If it's a recent thing, have you changed anything in the house, like cleaning products? What about her food, has that changed? And, what food are you using?

I'd maybe try bathing her in plain water too - no shampoo.

It might be worth having a look at this article. Also I'd be inclined to email your vets with a picture and explain your financial situation, they may not be helpful, but you have nothing to lose by asking, you never know!
