Well, we have had a few days of long walks and total relaxation on beautiful Grytøya island. A bit more snow than expected, but we had a lovely time anyway.

Finally some rest...

The island is quite rich in wildlife. Although we did not see any this time, there were plenty of evidence that there is still otters and hares to be found. We heard a lot of grouse and black grouse, and as always, we saw several white tailed eagles. Such a pity I don't have a decent camera:

Well, the weather is unpredictable at all times of year. At least if you were visiting northern Norway (where Grytøya is located), I'd make sure to visit in summer while the midnight sun is still shining. If you have not experienced that before, it can be hard to get any sleep, but it is rather special.

Really lovely pics of Gullet and the scenery Bard!  Glad to hear you had a relaxing  time!  Is this island in Norway?  :b   apologies for my lack of geographical knowledge.

Yes, it is in the northern part of Norway! Actually, my late grandparents lived there,and we now use their house as a vacation home. There are several old fishing villages on the island, but alas, only a few remaining old age pensioners live there all year now.

In some places, certainly, but if you go to the seaside, they are not that bad at all. I have experienced some bad swarms of flies in certain locations at Grytøya, though.

Still, I just love the place. Full of wildlife, but very little of the obnoxious or dangerous sort. No fox or other predatory mammals besides otters. There used to be escaped mink also, but I have never seen one. Seagulls are also in decline (I actually miss them).

Elk have become a real nuissance in the nearby town of Harstad, but although they have been known to swim over from the mainland and back, they have never settled on Grytøya.

Oh, forgot to mention: This far north, you are very unlikely to see neither ticks nor fleas, and certainly no vipers!
