We have 4 bitch puppies and 1 dog puppy born on December 24, 2005. The bitches are doing fine and are walking quite well. The dog puppy seems to have no power in his hindlegs and crawls along, the power coming from his forelegs. In addition the dog pup seems to have very loose skin. Comments welcome. I have never seen this, but have read about a syndrom called "swimmers" in newborns. I seem to remember that they do eventually come right, and should have non slip bedding that they can grip on to. Sorry can't remember any more.

did you have the pups checked by a vet ,if not i would see one just to put your mind at rest

sounds like a swimmer really wide flat chest? i've been told that some breeders tie the front legs together, to bring them right, but have no personal experience of this. i do know that many breeders pts affected pups i'd speak to the vet, get all facts together and take it from there. :luck:

Sometimes if a pup is very heavy, he takes more time to properly stand on his legs. My mother's dog "Kyle" was one of those.

If it is 'swimmers' that is a serious condition that can affect internal organs as well as the legs.

Have read about this condition,just never heard of it affecting whippets before.

A very interesting read I really hope the reason for your pups lack of walking is down to Morgan's answer of being heavy.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. We visited two vets and had x-rays which showed the pup`s hindlegs and in part the forelegs were deformed. As a result on the vets advice we had the pup put to sleep. Very sad. Stephen

Totally agree with Dessie, very sad but you acted in the pups best interest, and as quickly as possible. Hope all the other pups are okay, and wish you well.
