Zen contiually get good reports - www.zen.co.ukdoris said:I'm on aol and have been having problems on here in the last few days, web page not found, smilies not showing up, taking ages to load pages
can anyone recommend a good provider?
p.s. I'm not technical!
I dont think its a provider you need to look at Doris, maybe you need to do some housework on your pc, for starters, your on aol, at the top of your screen you will see aol keyword, click on that, type in, securefix, when did you last run anti virus or a defrag, install crap cleaner, its free, disc clean up, empty your browser, to name a few.doris said:I'm on aol and have been having problems on here in the last few days, web page not found, smilies not showing up, taking ages to load pages

The recent problems unfortunately have had everything to do with AOL and the poor proxy cacheing facilities they use - it seems they don't refresh it anywhere near often enough, so it's well out of date. If you want to stick with AOL dump their browser and use something better...midlanderkeith said:I dont think its a provider you need to look at Doris, maybe you need to do some housework on your pc, for starters, your on aol, at the top of your screen you will see aol keyword, click on that, type in, securefix, when did you last run anti virus or a defrag, install crap cleaner, its free, disc clean up, empty your browser, to name a few.doris said:I'm on aol and have been having problems on here in the last few days, web page not found, smilies not showing up, taking ages to load pages

fair comment Nigel, but my answer to Doris was before looking at other providers and perhaps taking her problems with her, do some pc housework, as mentioned above, its very rare i get any probs with aol, simply because i look after my pc, and if i do, then simple, minimise aol, and use int explorer, all im trying to do here is be of help if i can.Nigel said:The recent problems unfortunately have had everything to do with AOL and the poor proxy cacheing facilities they use - it seems they don't refresh it anywhere near often enough, so it's well out of date. Not thick at all, this is what im implying, nobody can just sit at there computer and expect trouble free surfing or whatever, you have to look after it, have we all got up to date anti virus, firewall, reg cleaners, mru blaster, loads of stuff i can mention, and its all free, microsoft updates, my comp is set to download any critical updates to keep it running free of trouble, i can honestly say hands on heart, and by the way im on dial up, that my pc runs great, in safe mode thats how i run a disc defragmenter, and my anti virus, with sysem restore turned OFF, never forget to turn system restore back ON when finished.JAX said:Might sound thick here :- " but how do you defrag ? please :*
OMG Jax, do you mean to say you dont Defrag (w00t)JAX said:Might sound thick here :- " but how do you defrag ? please :*
Numerous things to try Doris, heres a few simple ones, on your desk top, right click the aol icon, then click on system information, then click on utilities, then clear the browser cache, on the same page, uninstall the aol adapter, shut the page down, now your back on your desktop, sign on to aol, you will see new adapter files being installed, sign on to aol, once signed on, go to aol keyword at top of your screen, click on it and type in, secure fix, now restart aol.doris said:BeeJay - thanks for advice re: page 404 - I found it really informative
to answer previous questions about my pc - I don't know much about technical stuff, but I do defrag every once in a while, and when I remember to do that, I do most of the other system tools as well
its just been the last few days and its not getting any better, so don't really know what to do now :wacko
