I was just wondering when everyone stopped giving theri whippet puppy food? Mojo is 7 months and is having Burns puppy food. I am having to give him loads to stop him from being really skinny. Dolly is on Burns active as if i give her normal food she loases weight quickly. Just wondered what everyone else does?

kiplin as just gone 6 months and he is on a raw meat and bakers puppy.

i will always give mine mixer now as with the raw feeding mine was putting too much weight on.

they also get supplements; keepersmix and garlic tablets and i also puree fruit and veg to add to their meals.

puppy food till 12 months then junior 12-18 months then on to adult , its as it says on the packet :blink:

When you say` loads ` it may be more than recommended on the packet but they are all individuals as are we and some need a larger portion than others , me I need /want big portions , but only need small ones

Feed your pup on the amount that makes him stay at the correct weight , I prefer my pups slightly heavy rather than under weight .

Just to add if you are feeding a complete , you SHOULDNT be adding anything to it,eg raw meat , because it is COMPLETE and balanced and adding meat etc will unbalance it :- "

Totally agree with you Jax,the completes especially the premiums have been made to be balanced and anything added will effect it.

Some puppy foods are now being made as puppy & junior instead of two seperate ones,I feed Eukanuba puppy & junior and feed it until 18mths,I add NOTHING to it and my lot are fine and thriving well,the only other thing I give my dogs is natural probiotic yoghurt,they take it off the spoon last thing at night.

When I give my dogs Burns they always seem to need loads more than it says on the packet so it does end up quite expensive (contrary to the claims which they make :lol: ) my dogs love it though so they get as much as they need, not as much as it says on the packet.

For an example, Lenny usually has about twice as much as recommended and Molly has about 1 1/2 times the recommended amount. They are both ok weight-wise (ie. not over or underweight). Perhaps its because they are such an active breed? I don't tend to feed the active variety cos it makes them hyper (w00t)

And in answer to your question, I stopped with the puppy food at 12 months

should have said when mine get raw meat they get the fruit and veg mixed in that,then the day after we give dry complete food on its own,so they also get a variety

Thanks!! I just wanted to check that I was doing the right thing as a friend of mine said she stopped giving her dog puppy food at about 7 months. Mojo is coming along nicely and is gaining some really good muscle. I am moving him over to the burns high energy puppy food from the advice of the vets at burns. As he was eating so much of the mini bites I think it was causing his digestion to work overtime and hopefully he should need less of the new food. I will post some updated pictures of him over the weekend. I can't believe he is 7 months now!! Thanks for your advice, this is a great forum and i am so glad that I got my two whippets after waiting about 5 years. I was worried about getting Mojo after having Dolly for a year but its the best thing my husband and I have done!!

I have a 7 month old puppy who totally lost interest in the Burns puppy food so I contacted a nutritional advisor at Burns by email and he told me it was ok to put puppies onto the adult Burns food from 6 months but to carry on feeding the quantities recommended for puppies. My local pet shop has given me lots of tester bags for the different varieties of Burns which is good as some he just simply won't touch and as you know they're not cheap to buy.
