Got a new pup and she seems to be incredibly over active. She is on the go all day non stop, and at night, while we have now got her to be quite, she seems to sleep very little and is peeping out of her crate whenever we look at her. She is on Burns puppy food, eats like a horse, and is otherwise very healthy.

Our other dog was the reverse - we could never get her to eat much and she slept all the time.

If she was on any other sort of food I would wonder about switching her - perhaps we should try it anyway?

Any thoughts?

How long have you had her? She may just be excited at her new surroundings.

burns shouldnt cause her to be hyperactive as there are no additives in it she probably just has a different personality and you notice it more because your first whippy was the opposite just out of interest how long is she in the crate for?

10 days now. Trying to get her into a routeen. She came from a rather manic house and was clearly used to being pampered cos she thought she could cry and cry for attention. Gave us a week of sleepless nights but now she is ok. She is a very bold character and strong willed. I would have expected her to sleep a lot given all the playing/running around she does.

she is probably still wound up you havent had her long just perservere i wouldnt worry too much sounds like she is a normal puppy :))

she goes in at night and stays there until am - with one or two pee outings in between. in the day she is out most of the time, and I wonder whether we should enforce some down time on her? thing is, while she now is quite at night, in the day if we put her in her crate she thrashes around and makes a hell of a noise. she doesnt seem at all stressed - she is happy to go in and out of her own accord - its just that she has unbelievable energy and is wanting to play constantly.

have you got her a kong? i would invest in one and get her to have some time out with a filled kong it will keep her amused for a while and give you a bit of a break untill you can start walking her

Puppies do play, have you ever had a whippet puppy before? They can be incredibly energetic, she will calm down eventually, you will have to be patient as you have not had her long.

Got to agree with Anne - I know a couple of our pups were very active and on the go from the day they went to their new home - I still have one of them here with me; he likes to play a lot! :D

I think they are all different, some much more laid back and quiet and others full of beans and on the go all the time.

My Poppy is the same, she's 7 month's and does'nt sleep much,15 minutes then wakes up and then rareing to go again. Completely the opposite to Milly.

Wish my two were like this all the time. more like 1% of the time

apart from the mad dash about for a bit of play, our Ella sleeps ALL day, ALL evening, then ALL through the night ! I think she shoul've been a cat !

She does obviously play around more when her brother comes to stay, but she's very happy catching up on her beauty sleep, it works too, she's very pretty :D
