I personally think that price does need to be broached somewhere but as previously mentioned it is where in the conversation that you bring the subject up and how!

If as mentioned above it is THE first question out of someone's mouth and they don't want to know anything else about the pup except the price FIRST,then IMO we have a problem.I'm sure that those of you who have bought pups off breeders have been a bit more tactful than that?I certainly know I have! No,we all don't have endless amounts of spare cash lying about (if only) and no, money alone does'nt guarantee a good home. But there are ways and means of doing things and possibly asking a few questions about the pups before the "money question" ie can you see both sire & dam, what the breeding is,will the pup be suitable for what you want, color etc would be recieved a lot better than just jumping in at the beginning with "How much mate"?I know from experience that it tends to put MY back up right away!

Any way this is just my opinion, but I do feel it is'nt an unreasonable one :D

Can I just ask you all. Exactly who is it on here that has said that the first question that you ask a breeder is how much? Who has said that they have actually done that? Same answer no one. :- "

So why so much defensiveness over summat that no one has actually said? :D

Some of this thread has been removed, beejay there was more

Yes I know.

The prospective buyer never asked first about how much. That wasn't the initial problem. I know that for a fact. Because the breeder told me what had upset her and said as much on here.

It was a communication cock-up that got out of hand. Damn shame IMO. :(

So I will polietly retire :- "

Sos if I personally appeared argumentative  . Not my intention, just joinin in discussion.

well at the end of the day that what it is.......... a discussion.i wasnt aware of anything that had been removed but hey, what the heck.(ill go back in a min and have another look!)i do know this, everyone is different and we all have our own ideas and views.the reason i replied to my original post was because i was defending my stance on what i would do if someone rang me up and the first thing they asked me was the price.yes ive had it done and yes ive hung up on them or said sorry theyve all gone.as 05 whippet said its WHERE in the conversation you ask the price.and as dessie said its not what you say its how you say it.ive also had folk down who ive refused to sell a pup to and theyve rang me up later to tell me that another breeder has decided they were suitable owners of one of their pups.thats fine,i replied,as long as its not one of mine. :- " different people have different standards.i just think its good that lyd takes a lot of care in finding good homes for her pups, wish more folk would do so.

oooops ive just been back and had a quick peek and a post has been removed!sorry! :- "

still at the end of the day we all want whats best for our dogs and pups and we all go about it in our own ways. :)

It wasnt a cold call about the pups....I didnt ring her

I posted on the forum about them, well the blue one, instead of PMing her...which i wasnt supposed to do

What can i say excitement got the better of me :- "

I have been posting on here since i got Tilly in may, and ok thats not really long but im sure people have got to know me a bit by then and know i am a suitable home for a whippet. Even if i am really impulsive and jump in.

Sorry if i caused offence to Lydia :( (which i why i asked for my post to be pulled) i am in no way appologising for the questions i asked, just if i subsequently said something out of order in a later post. :b

I hope she finds good homes for the pups  , like i said it worked out great in the end because in Bean i have got eveything i wanted, a good little racer, perfect colour, great price :- " i couldnt have asked for more Thank you paul :huggles:

As far as im concerned END OF!!

Hi Lyd, I hope you get the chance to do a repeat mating when you can keep a puppy yourself  :luck: They look lovely especially the blue & blue fawn

I myself like to get the question of price out of the way first of, if people do not ask I tell them. Why waste my time trying to work out if they are suitable owners, if they have good fences etc if later on they tell me they did not expect to pay so much.

I have spoken to one breeder who tells me that if person asks what colours she has she will not sell them a puppy, becouse colour in Whippet is immaterial and if they ask they do not want it enough.... (w00t)

Poor buyers, soon they will be terrified to ask any question at all just in the case the say something wrong and the breeder won't sell them puppy.

People buying pet are not going to ask who is the dam and sire, as that will have no meaning for them. Neither does a talk about wonderful conformation. They want to come and see the pups.

I am happy to have people come over, spend couple of hours playing with pups and we have a good talk. If they do not get a puppy from me in the end (either because I will not let them or they decide to look at other litter) my pups had couple of hours socializing with people and often their children. I feel that more people they meet at early age the better.

Well I can only go by my own experiences when buying and selling. :))

When buying, even just a pet,I was still more interested in other things regarding the pups other than price!! I WAS interested in who both the parents were and if I could see them? And when selling our litter they all went to show homes so the people were VERY interested in who the parents were amongst other things and the price came last! But as I said I can only go by my own experiences and how and what I said when buying and I tried to speak and treat the people that were buying off me the same way. :D

But we are all different in what we expect, and how we like things to be done in life and I suppose this just spills over into our dogs ;)

I sincerely hope that Lydia finds suitable loving homes for her lovely pups,as I'm sure she will

Blimey! (w00t) Soon we won't be able to ask the breed of the puppy without being turned away?! ;)

 I think that potential puppy buyers have to be aware that selling pups that they have a strong bond with can be extremely difficult for most breeders. Particularly true I would think of those that don't breed very often and those who spend a great deal of time and effort with the pups.

New owners only have to worry about buying a healthy pup, hopefully having a good relationship with the pups breeders (both sides if you are very lucky) and whether they are being told the truth by the breeder.

Breeders on the other hand have to worry about whether that new owner is going to trustworthy enough to let them have one of their precious pups. That isn't an easy judgement to make. I know of several people who have been lied to and have had to rescue their pups out of a neglectful home. They don't breed anymore.

Hmm I don't know if Lyd will. She very rarely breeds a litter. She certainly intended to keep one or maybe two. It's just circumstances overtook her. This has been a doubly difficult time for her, as she always finds it so difficult to sell one of her pups and then to find that it just isn't possible for her to keep one.......... She has been very brave in making that decision.

Sod's law also would have it that she had sooo many dog pups booked with people that she knew and trusted and she had bitches. Then when she wanted to keep any dealings that she had between herself and any prospective puppy buyers private .................................... It's just been so awful for her that I don't know if she'll ever do it again, which is a damn shame as Bluebell is a stunner.

However that all said Bluebell had three beautiful puppies and Lyd has found 2 of them wonderful homes that she is really happy with. Only the pretty parti girl to go now. She's a real character.

Just heard from Lyd that the pretty little parti girl has found her forever home too. I'll leave her to explain.

I'm looking forwards to seeing photos of the 'two more' new K9 pups in their homes and with their kennel mates and having fun as they the grow.

Hi everyone,

A big thank-you to all the support and encouragement in finding homes.Especially those of you like 05whippet,who do not know me personally, but seem to understand how hard it can be in finding the right homes.

After assisting G.R.W.E. i'm not un-experienced in finding homes, but, when you've bred the litter,so you are responsible for them being here,I find it harder.

I've appreciated all the comments posted, and, reading how other breeder's deal with finding suitable homes. At this moment I'm going to be as close to apologising as I can,I've appreciated your posts Seraphina. In the past I know I've been downright rude to you,but you still joined in and haven't critiscised me personally - thank-you.

Anyway, here are some pics of last girly........Uggy

in her 'new' home............

:) Lyd :)
