Is it usual for puppies to become good and then revert to being bad?

Austin had started to go through the night, but now it is hit and miss as to whether he stays quiet the whole way through.

We play with him as much as we can before he flakes out in the evening, and we took him for a little walk last night and he still kept waking us up.

It is so annoying as I thought we had cracked this.

I just want to sleep!!

How old is he, does he sleep alone or with your other dog (do you have another dog? saw the picture)

Hi,

He is 13 weeks old and we have had him since he was 9 weeks old.

The other dog is my parents dog.

Austin sleeps downstairs in the kitchen on his own and since we have had him we have done nothing different.

It originally took about 2 weeks of going down to settle him down when he woke (no eye contact or entering the room. He has a baby gate to keep him in).

He had been okish for 2 weeks, but now he has started waking again.

He is used to being left for a couple of hours during the day in his crate.

I think he might be pushing the boundaries :b

He's settled in, learned the routine, and now he's trying it on to see if you will run down to him and play 8)

I'd say stick it out and don't go down to him at all. If you do, he'll just try it on again the following night as he will know that you'll give in before him.

They are crafty little toads, especially these black and white monsters

That's what I was thinking Kim, it might be worth giving him some extra bedding just to make him cosy. Of course he might have loads of bedding and be just trying it on but it's a thought.

Little black and white monster is an understatement!! lol!

Your pictures and comments on your training class thread TC, are almost the same as our time at training class.

I think you're right TC, he may be trying it on.

We will try ignoring! If we do go down we don't go in the room. He is right below our bedroom so difficult to ignore and sleep. Maybe I will move house for a while!!!

K&T

It had crossed my mind that he may be a little cold. Our house is fairly well insulated, but the kitchen has a tiled floor. I was thinking of getting a mat or something to put under his bed and maybe a few more blankets for him (to chew!!).

i have bought a load of ikea fleece blankets £1.25 a go, wash and dry well

Great idea. Any excuse to go to ikea!!

P.S. I love your signature quote.

If that doesnt work you could always get another puppy to snuggle together xxx

Oh, forgot about that. Off to the market place now!! (w00t)

Last nights update:

He couldn't have been cold as we put the heating on.

He woke up around 1am and hubby settled him. But then he woke up half hour later. I left him for a while. He would wine a little, then settle, or rip up the newspaper.

After half an hour I really needed to get some sleep so when down to settle him.

It took a while to settle him as he was quite awake by then. But I didn't look at him or go into the room.

Unfortunately I had to listen to him eat his poo :x

He then didn't wake until 6:30.

He was a little monster at my mum's yesterday and didn't want to eat his biscuit food. Could he be teathing?

I also think that he may actually want to go to toilet outside. He is almost completely toilet trained and will ask to go out.

Im sorry to be rude....but surely he needed to go outside maybe... :- " :- "

when you first get a pup sometimes they need to go out even during the night at first.

Don't worry about being rude.

I am learning with this pup!

He has puppy training pads and newspaper to go on and he does use them.

I had thought it was best to keep him in the kitchen and not go into him when he was whining.

I know he would not make it through the night without going to the toilet and we have always cleaned up his mess in the morning without fuss and have made sure he was otherwise occupied so didn't see us cleaning up.

And because he is so good at asking to go out during the day, I am thinking that he wants to go out at night and would prefer to go outside rather than on the paper (although he does use the paper).

But, for the past 4 weeks we haven't gone into him at all. If I start to take him out to the toilet, will he play on it and think it is getting up/play time?

hi, just thinking our greyhound Ned kips by our window in his basket at night and sleeps through during the summer months. just now when the weather has been a bit chilly he gets up and has a weep and tries to get in our bed. been sending him into his basket with an old fleecy robe and closed the window. it has worked!

My pups had newspaper in the crate too...

but I think if they had been eating the poo....then I would have cleaned it up after letting the pup out for a few minutes....then gently coaxed him back to sleep....

its obvious hes distressed if hes resorting to eating the poo rather than going to sleep

once he can go through the night you shouldnt have a problem. :)
