I have a 10 month old pup (fawn coloured) out of Viv's Quest & Penny , I took him to the vets to get his eyes checked out yesterday. If he isn't fully blind now, it won't be long before he is. His eyes shine green in the light, and he has fixed dilated pupils. The vet advised that I ask people who have had one of the pups to please take their dog to the vet and get their eyes checked. Could they please let me know how they get on?

Loshy.

Must be bad luck loshy, tash the flash, his sister has just taken supreeme pup at Swollowsnest today, his other sisters and brothers raced at blidworth yesterday and looked ok, Brian the owner of his unraced mum Penny says that none of his breeding has ever had eye trouble and I know Dons breeding never have also, but i will ask the owners to have them checked if they think they need it.

I hope that the vet may just have got it wrong this time but all the best with the little fella anyway :luck: :luck:

Hi Richard sorry to hear the bad news about your dog

I Have spoken to Brian he said there has never been any problem in his breeding

also as John said Tash the Fash is running very well and so are the rest of the litter so no poblem there

Viv's quest had had lots of pups and none of them have have this trouble

these things do happen some are born blind or deaf or in some cases deformed in some way

I think it is a just a one off but unfortunatly for you it is yours

hope you go on alright with him in the future

:luck: with your pup, hope he keeps safe, nurtured in your loving family :huggles:

Really sorry this has happened to your puppy. :(

I did a spot of mooching and came across this site http://www.blinddogs.com/ theres a lot of info and support there that may be useful. It was interesting reading a comment on there about how some dogs will help lead the blind one around and look out for them.

Do keep us updated on his progress as this subject hasn't really ever been discussed on K9 before and it may help others in the future.

Wishing your chap the best of luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

Loshy, we have a bitch that is blind - she went blind nearly 2 years ago and she gets around the house and garden without any problem. She does bump into a few things at times but other than this blindness she is very healthy. She even, at times, tries to have a little run in the garden. I know some people would have a dog PTS due to this, but like you we love her and unless she has a serious illness she will remain with us, with her blindness, until her health gets the better of her. She even goes off in the caravan with us and finds her way in and out of that and into the paddock area we make for her with wind breakers. It is surprising how they cope with this handicap.

All the best with your dog and hope he enjoys and long and happy life.

Joan
