Tyg has had a grass allregy rash the last few days but I noticed yesterday that he had developed a nasty pyoderma. He's been bathed in Malaseb and I've been using lavender oil on the pustules ... it's almost certainly a staph infection so we'll be off to the vets for some ab's ... but just wondering if anyone has suggestions for any other topical preparations we might use ... he's supposed to be lure coursing at the Great Yorkshire on Tuesday and he's a bit sore at the moment.

Cheers

Annie

I'd use lavender oil as well so no different advice here.

I can't believe he's a year old already

Me neither :D Wendy with Dillon and I have arranged a little get together for the litter ... everyone but the little girl who went to Ireland should be there ... will be lovely to see how they've all grown.

Thanks for the confirmation that lavender oil is the way to go

Don't forget the camera at the reunion then!

my terrier had this often last year but none this year, my lurcher pup is getting it instead, the other terrier doesn't get it but he has a very hairy tummy i believe its the grass that looks like corn -it makes scratches which get infected, my vet told me to wipe the affected areas with hibiscrub 1/100 solution after every walk and that using aloe vera gel was ok cos it was soothing and this did make a difference to the healing time, do you think lavendar oil would be better than aloe vera, if so i'll use that instead. what sort to use, are there different sorts i appreciate your advice.

you could maybe try giving him urtica urens or Apis mel(homeopathic)

The aloe vera is soothing and will take the heat out, but the lavender is antibacterial and promotes cell regrowth. To be honest no reason I can see why you couldn't use both alternately. Any good chemist shold have little bottles of lavender, try the aromatherapy section. Some people say you should dilute the lavender oil first but I mostly just apply with a slightly damp pad.

Or maybe dilute 2 to 3 drops of lavender in a teaspoon of aloe vera gel? Then you would get the benefits of both.

if its an allergy try antihystamines the child doseage and the antihystamine cream
