Has anyone got any advice ?? .........Inca has had a smelly discharge (now 3 weeks after her season finished) ......Our vets started her on strong AB's but have scanned her to see if her wombs filled with fluid, but its not  ........I guess if it is a pyo at least its an open one so its draining, but why has nothing showed on her scan ?? ........

I haven't got a clue about pyo  just wanted to say hope she's ok :huggles: :luck: :luck:

Hannah, first of all I wish Inca well, :huggles:

I had a dobermann bitch with suspected Pyom at 9 years of age, I told the vet her last season was 4 months ago, the vet nurse said it couldn't be this then, but desided to operate all the same, (to spay)

I found out that she didn't have this condition but had tumours on her liver and kidney's and had to be PTS :(

I'm not trying to scare you but please have ALL blood tests done on Inca just incase

here's what I found out about pyometra:

Pyometra is an infection of the uterus. It is a serious condition that can become life-threatening if not treated. Pyometra occurs as a consequence of hormonal changes effecting the lining of the uterus. Following oestrus ("heat"), progesterone levels remain elevated for 8-10 weeks and thicken the lining of the uterus in preparation for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur for several oestrus cycles, the lining continues to increase in thickness until cysts form within it. The thickened, cystic lining secretes fluids that create an ideal environment in which bacteria can grow.

good luck :luck:

i had two bitches with suspected pyo and was spayed at 7 years old both of them, and apart from what tina as said my vets told me that bitches that have phantom pregnancys where more likely to get it, both bitches had phantoms every season.

Hi, sorry to hear that Inca is having problems, I'm afraid I can't help, just wanted to say good luck :luck:

Hannah, persevere with the antibiotics and poss ask the vet to culture the discharge to indentify the bug. Then he can Zap it with the appropriate drug.

Daisy had a bad pyro but went on to conceive and go to full term after it.
