The other night I went along to a Brownies group/pack/troop whatever they are called. We were asked along to give a bit of a talk to the kids about animal welfare & pet ownership & responsibility. :)

The line up was....

1 Bedlington Terrier.....

2 ferrets......

2 rabbits.......

1 kitten......

27 children aged 7-10........

A recipe for disaster if ever I saw one (w00t)

Raffy thought all his birthdays & Christmasses had arrived at once :- "

Actually everyone was very well behaved & no-one bit anyone..........& the animals were good too

In this pic Rafferty is not looking at the camera, he's too obsessed with the bunny

a bit further along the row (w00t)

It was quite a good evening & all the girls seemed to enjoy themselves, Raffy has never been patted so much, he was a very good boy & put up with all the attention. After all the bad press dogs have had recently I was proud of him

sounds like you had fun! great to see people like yourself taking the time out to do such things, and i have to say rafferty makes a lovely brownie!!! (w00t)

Awwww you can just read his mind while he's looking at that bunny can't you, 'when we're done can I have that'

What a good thing for kids to be able to see :D most of the kids I know don't even know what a ferret was  all the kids in my class however know what a whippet is because I've shown them my website, so now they know they are not small greyhounds or skinny dogs

Great post J.T

I bet it was fun, although a little scary, 27 children (w00t)

must be atheme going on as the brownie group my daughter goes too has asked me to take one of my dogs in too (w00t)

rafferty will have to give jan tips on how to survive the night

Now you know what I feel like .... taking those little dears in parties round the farm. :) :- "

Im glad Rafferty brought some joy to the Rainbows/Brownies - my daughter was one and then joined Guides too - they have some great nights. Well done.

What a great thing to do, educating kids about responsible pet ownership is so important and I bet they really enjoyed it :luck:

All those Brownies though - very scary! (w00t) (w00t)

Ben used to go to cubs and one year they had to take something that was associated with Ireland What did Ben come up with

Owen and Tegan

Well they were both born in Northern Ireland

Awh, he makes a mighty sweet Brownie.

Well done Rafferty. And well done you for surviving; you know what they say, Never work with animals or children.

27 kids!my god, id have been running screaming to the hills! (w00t) well done you for doing this.its an excellent idea as some kids cant have pets and i always think its hard for a child to empathise with an animal if theyve never owned one.in the u.s. theyre finding taking pets into schools and teaching children about them is leading to a drop in childrens animal cruelty figures and they know it will lead to a drop in adult animal cruelty too. its also got a lot of other knock on efffects.ie bullying, serial killing, torture murders, rapes etc etc.you wouldnt believe that would you?all from letting a kid cuddle a pet :)

Rafferty deserves a gold star for doing this. :huggles: good boy Raffers!

Raffertys tip would be to focus on something interesting.....like a bunny (w00t) & then you won't even notice all those pesky kids.

I have to say it was a bit daunting having to stand up & be interesting in front of them all. I usually try to give children a very wide berth :- "

I just waffled on about my job & asked them about their own pets & how they should be looking after them.

Not something I'd want to do more than once a year tho :b

yeah cant say im too thrilled myself 8)

jan says thanks to rafferty for the tip

she will keep her eyes out for anything interesting :- "
