right im in talks with regards a permenant track at maythorne southwell.ive been offered the perfect field at the camp site its perfectly level only very slight up hill .could get 200yds track with up to 50 yds pull in after .the track would be purpose done just for racing there would be enough space to cope with up to maybe 80 upwards caravans on same field which would be kept mowed too and used totally for whippet racing events and would have waste site biult on field and own water supply .the track is 300 yds from a river so can be watered when needed to keep the track in top class .this would all be kept to a very high standard.now ive just sorting the funding of this as i think really we do need a top class track which is long term and going to kept to high standard.do you think i should continue with this?and would people be prepared to help with costs to have the perfect surface?and bwra and nnwrf use for weekend events as if can assure of weekend events i can most prob sort a better rental price?

thanks john well as the farmer and is son have done work on race horse tracks im sure it would be the best surface going a proper track not just a field  but to be honest might get a better response on the peddi site :-

Brilliant idea Chris. Just had a word with Graham and we're happy to help where ever we can. Im sure there'll be loads of others as it sounds ideal

I think its a great idea------ this should have hapened years ago --i would put the offer to the peds also no reason not to is there?

Steve

Heard many a time from club racers at our track that this is something both organisations have needed for a long time so I'm sure there will be a great amount of support Chris

I'm not 100% sure but I think the governing body for pedigree whippet racing deter non-ped whippets and pedigree whippet racing from associating with one another, for the reason that the 2 breeds could become 'intimate' as it were, leading to all kinds of issues for pedigree whippets. With matters of late though, the future possibility of the Kennel Club opening up stud books and the likes of DNA testing, things may have changed or may do with time.

Setting up some club racing there open to non-peds, peds and lurchers and such may generate some small revenue along with more physical man power for groundskeeping. Good luck :luck:

im hoping to run a club from there and have two tracks side by side one club track and the other only used for open events the farmer as said he will do all the work re waste disposal and track and keep all field mowed and maintained i just need to work out a fair price and hope for some big events as then he gets caravan fees and he assures me hes hoping it be a very long term site as he knows it is a big outlay to get right but understands this and is ive known him for years and when things are sorted just hope people respect he likes things tidy

That sounds great to me, I think if you ask the majority of running dog owners they would say - "If I had enough money I would buy a plot of land and purpose build a track and camping facilities". To get Peds and Lurchers involved too would create a facility available for all big events (though a bit of compromise would be required re. calendar dates etc.) and would mean that a larger team of people could be involved in the up-keep of any facilities. :D

Does "waste disposal" include showering/toilet facilites for those staying in tents rather than caravans with shower rooms.

Great job Chris, sounds about as good as you can get!!

I hope you get all the support and help you need to get this under way, I personally think it would be fantastic so good luck :)

BRILLIANT NEWS By the time i have a dog ready to run, it should be well in motion
