Hello Im new to the board and need some help

Im looking for a ringcraft class to take my 1 year old Husky, Bob  , to. I can travel to Newbury, Basinstoke, Andover, Windsor or Oxford.

Does anyone know of one in the area?

I had started one a couple of weeks ago in Reading but had a unfortunate experience with one of the members and won't be returning in a hurry.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Beth

Thanks. After a full day of research i managed to find 2 classes near by.

welcome to k9 and glad to hear you got sorted

What unfortunate experience did you have?

There aren't that many ringcraft clubs in Reading,

I have heard there is a ringcraft club in Woolhampton off the A4 near Reading.

It's held on Thursday nights at the the village hall but not sure of times possibly 8pm? Dont have any other info than that.

There is also one in Woodley - Lodden Vale Community Hall in Woodley - Southlake Crescent. Tuesday evenings - 7.30pm I think. You should be able to get full details from KClub.

Or there is a club that runs on Wednesday evenings at Knowl Hill off the A4 near Maidenhead. They normally start at 8pm. Run by Maidenhead DCS.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the help. Im going to join the woolhampton club after easter. I had joined a class 2 weeks ago. This was a very hard thing for me to do cos i suffer from post-natal depression & find it very difficult to go out alone. Last night at my second class, Bob had an accident & while i was cleaning up 1 member made a comment about walking him more regularly. Bob gets 3 walks a day, minimum of 45 minutes. Then during the break, i changed bob into his walking harness & extendable lead. I went outside after everybody else. While i turned around to shut the gate, bob went to the end of his lead & this womans mut flew at him. She then started shouting at me about the dangerous dog act. I felt like curling up and dying, because everybody was watching me. This really upset me & it took a lot to find a new class and not to just stop. It probably sounds like a minor incident, but has taken me 15 months to be able to go out alone. Phew! Finished now! Beth

sorry to hear about your bad experience Beth :( Hope things work out better for you at the new ringcraft  :luck:

I am sorry to hear of your experience at ringcraft. All dogs can have accidents and some people open their mouths without thinking first (usually me but not on this occasion thankfully!!!). Hope the next class works out for you.

With regards to the incident outside, there was no need for the person to lead off about DD Act and nonsense like that BUT on the flip side of the coin I have to say that, having a dog who does not like his personal space invaded, it can be infuriating when people allow their dogs, who might be fine and friendly, to sniff my dog/poke their nose into his cage/go to the end of an extending lead (personally I hate the things) etc so I think you have to be aware of instances like that, especially at shows or ringcraft.

I am sorry to hear of your bad experience at ringcraft, but how would you have felt if it had been the other way around, for example... you are outside with your small dog (Frenchie) when a large husky comes flying at you and your dog and the owner does nothing to stop it ...would you not have been frightened for your own dog too?.

The person concerned who quoted the Dangerous dogs Act to you did so politely to make you aware that a dog needs to be under control in public and only needs to frighten someone in order for the Act to come into play.

So i hope you can appreciate the reasons why you were asked to keep Bob under control it was purely a remark that would have been made to any member regardless who they were (Except Dessie :- " )

Wishing you well at the new club

Beth,

Can only second what Sarah has said, but would just like to reiterate that the person who spoke to you about the DDA was genuinely making sure that you were aware of the regs re control etc so that you are forewarned for the future. If the same incident happened in a public park you could find yourself in a very difficult situation.

There was no malice in her voice, purely concern for your dogs welfare, and as someone who was there the entire time, it was a shock to me that you left in the way that you did.

As mentioned before, I think that you may want to rethink the use of a flexi-lead?

Good Luck with your new club

Tracy and Jake

Im not going to get into a long discussion about this as the whole thing has really upset me. My husband & friend have had to walk my dogs because i cant face going out just now, its going to take a lot of effort to go to this new class! Bob did not fly at her dog, if he had i would have felt him pull. Bob is on an extendable lead so he can be as free as possible without being let off. I understand that she wasnt happy bob was near her (i wouldnt have been either) but her tone & volume of voice was what upset me, & the fact you were all looking at me like i disgusted you! I was closing the gate so wasnt concentrating on the dog, excuse me for not being 100% perfect 100% of the time! Yes your correct that i shouldnt have left in a temper but i would have just broken down in tears othewise, i apologise! Thankyou for your help while i was there, i do appreciate it. Beth
