Rottweiler Situation

there is a lovely wee rottie pup about 14 weeks old that came to ringcraft last week, his owner was chatting and said that when he took the pup along with him to school to pick his kids up for a bit of socialisation and even though he was holding the puppy in his arms some parents were actually dragging their children away from the pup in horror and disgust like it was going to pounce on them and eat them

i doubt highly that they would have had such an extreme reaction to a lab puppy

this poor guy was trying to do the right thing getting his young pup used to different sights and sounds and he said he was made to feel like dangerous criminal for owning such a dog :(

it's a sad situation

I always advice any one having one of my pups NEVER leave alone together a DOG and a Child

You are correct Jax,

I have two young boys and I always watch them with the dogs.

As much as I trust them (the dogs) even the nicest of dogs will turn if the child, screams suddenly, or hurts them while playing. and whippets are as fast as hell they will be in bite and back on the sofa before you have moved. Once a child screams in pain this could provoke the dog/dogs into kill mode.

I remember someone think it was Frank Moore had a young dog killed in the kennel because it trapped its leg and started screaming in pain by the time Frank got to it the others had attacked !!

The rotties are usually allowed to roam the flat but were kennelled outside and when the baby visited were kept outside. These dogs were as soft as putty, and although guard dogs, were complete teddy bears. Id say a great number of dogs are used to deter burglars, my two deepest barking Whippets are my guard dogs!!

The pub was constantly broken into so a rottie was bought to deter future tealeaves. Having fallen in love with the breed another was bought. NOBODY can condemn the owner for this as that is why most of us own more than one Whippet!

No-one taught the dogs to be guard dogs, dont ALL dogs guard property to some extent? How many bark at the postman?

At the time of the sad tradegy, the back door flung open, due to not being closed properly and the rest you all know. Nobody ever left the baby in danger as far as they knew. Baby in bed....parents downstairs for just a short time.

The owners here and family have never condemned the breed, as usual its the press that are making a good job at that.

I agree with much of what is being said here and although i dont personally like rotties, i agree that they are only as dangerous as any other dog. Its just if i were a burglar i would laugh at a Yorkie barking at me but shite myself if confronted with a rottie.

Amie and Lee have their biggest upset to come with the funeral on Thursday morning. Remember these parents thought their baby was safe in bed and our thoughts should also be with them at this sad time. The grief of losing a baby in the family is so huge, many tears have been shed for this helpless little angel.
