Unfortunately we will not now be having our new Lynperry puppy, as my father's health is becoming unstable with heart/kidney problems again and we decided it would not be fair to have to leave a young dog, either with relatives or kennels, while we are back and fore to hospital in Wales all the time. We had to leave Gelert with relatives for 3 months when he was young when my father had his last bout of serious heart problems, not something I'd want to do again.
I've been waiting for a time when both my parents' health was stable enough to settle a youngster in, but sadly it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I hope she'll quickly find a more settled home, she is a lovely little girl and I was extremely happy to have met her. I feel rotten about letting Paul down, but better to make the decision at this stage rather than unsettle a pup by changing homes several times later on.
Just when things whippety were particularly cheerless, a labrador charged up and grabbed Gelert's throat yesterday, leaving an inch long tear near the jugular and numerous deep puncture marks on his face, some dangerously near his eyes. Luckily, the bites missed any major blood vessels, and our old Swansea vets were very good, had him stitched up within the hour. He's looking very sorry for himself, he seems very sore still and is having difficulty swallowing, so nice soft food for a few days I think.
