I'll easy find a job for you Kate. :D But there are a lot older people than you to help out with the hard thing's. Take Dawdon's last open I went out side and asked for people to help pull the trap's out. There were loads of people standing talking who could have done it but the only 2 who came foward were Gary and Ricky. At the end of the day it's easier when 5/6 people do it than just 2.

i will help any track north or south if i can help traps lure hey they only have to ask

my dad pulls the traps all the time for people he dosnt mind and like george said i would lyk to give summit ago but not the lure coz i know keiran like to do that at dawdan so if a can do out else i will do the reason younuns dnt do nout id because noboday askls them maybe if ya did they would help but no ne one does thats why you dont see them helping, i have been asked once to do the lure once and that was off lynn and then when i went they got one of there relatives people to do it and never let me do it half way so i think if u ask people they would but ask diffrent people as somepeople like to watch the racing sum times, like you people you like to see the racing sum times

I was banned from racing at lurcher shows quite a few years ago and it is only starting to pick up again now thanks to the formation of a new club who are realy passionate like i was ,about our sport.Iwas on top for 7 years unbeaten over here and every body was trying to take my scalp. But when i wasnt there any more it died of big time.We used to have about 30 wee dogs and 30 big dogs at the average show ,and the past few years there might have been one race of six dogs if you were lucky.Thankfully were getting back on track. We dont have none ped Whippet racing over here in N Ireland,so the next best thing is racing at lurcher shows.Although some of our dogs now, and in past times would undoubtably have made champs in the none peds as i have been researching some times, and comparing them to some of my own on local tracks.I once had a wee bitch who could break 17 every time for 300,when the top sprint of the night was sometimes being won in or around 17,40.She also done 18,06 first time 325 Lifford"old track"n first time out of traps, without these kickboard things i hear about now.So i recon we might have coped alright in the none peds. But hey maybe well get a chance sometime ,now that the world is a lot smaller thanks to the computer. Now we can know whats what, where and how to get there ,something we never knew before the PC came along. All the best to everyone in the game." There is another aspect to the clubs survival Sharon apart from workers and that is if the main bodies are allowed to ride rough shot over clubs regarding open dates that is our clubs bone of contention, although we have some real good club members I personally am not prepared to keep fighting for what we are entitled too for our open dates. The NNWRF has taken another one of our dates in May next year, a date we have had for the last fews and we are fed up with it. So at our AGM we will sort out exactly were we go from here, the pity of it is the club is still growing with plenty of pups so their has got to be a way round it, hopefully.

Maybe the 2 main bodies could take into consideration the clubs meetings.Surely without the clubs and there members there are no main bodies.Perhaps dates for all meetings could be discussed at the end of one year ready for the next.then hopefully happy people right across country :D Do think though that dates that have already been used in the past should be honoured.Clubs need all the help they can get :D Karen

Really Sheila i thought the past couple of years you were putting opens on to counteract the feds events, but don't quote me on this as i am not aware of what dates who had before that...and will some time over the next few days dig some old whippet news out for a look.. 2 events should not clash as the number of dogs racing drops dramatically

Have you not thought about trying to set a none ped club up in N Ireland it would be great if you could get a racing team together, you never know we might get so see you competing at one of our championships in the near future

I'll save you the bother of looking it up Denise because in May of this year and 2005 we had event at the the second week in May at Thurrock and before you had your meeting this year for next years dates the club had already asked the Whippet News for second week in May again, so perhaps it would have been better if you had checked before you made you statement, and as far as this matter goes thats the last time I will mention it.

Is this deja vu ...i think there was the same topic in k9 at the begin of this year or the end of last year...you are on about the nwrf easter classic at swallowsnest.

Yes the NNWRF did put that weekend event on this year and we are also holding the same weekend event again next year...if i am right the year before that was the lord Byron weekend at seaham, but thats not held as a weekend event now and hasn't been for a couple of years.

You did hold a weekend event at the same time this year also...like i say its a shame because the numbers of dogs racing will drops dramatically and some that might travel to give the dogs a run on swallownest track before the champs might not now

Just because the Devon club as finished does not mean that this great holiday event must cease, or are we all defeatist? Surely the BWRA & the NNWRF & the IRG can get together and put some racing on. I'm sure we could all muck in to keep this great holiday event going. I for one would volunteer to go down in April May & June to cut the grass and generally keep the the track in running order.

I'm sure Vern & mick would allow us to use their traps, So lets get talking to the local council in Devon for permission

ps theres no club at Swallownest but we still have some brilliant racing!

so sorry we have closed devon & somerset club, but there are several reasons for it, one, the drug takers beeing allow to run in the main organations is not one of them as they would still not be allowed to run in devon & somersets opens. 2 me & mick travelled to the agm & it was such a fiasco that we could not see the sport proceeding very much in the future, ie. tony found it hard to work at the championships for three days whilst mick and i worked for 10 months of the year to get the devon opens right, & then worked 10 days of our holiday to make sure it ran well, i would like to thank every one who allways gave us help to run the meetings over the 20 or thirty years we ran the event. the 3rd & last reason we decided to finish is that we both miss my wife joyce at the track with us & it is not the same without her doing her organization. i wish alll my whippet racing friends & racers i dont know all the best for the future& hope organations & clubs work together better in the future or there will be no future in whippet racing, i wll see u round some opens next year as i intend to travel with my little caravan untill then merry xmas and happy new year

Well said Vern, there is a lot of had work to put in and as you say Joyce did all the organizing although it went off alright last year she was sorely missed ,and I can understand how you feel

all the very best to you in the future and hope to see you around

happy xmas and a peaceful new year

I will second that Syko, a great bunch of fellows and women, who ran the racing at Devon with no more a thought than helping those who were down there to enjoy their racing and Holidays. The club workers were never more happier than when you thanked them for a good time that we all had. I will sorely miss the racing and the devon lilt from Vern, all good men and women indeed. All the best to the New country and western DJ, :luck:

hope we see you at the opens next year Vern  you are a true gentleman of the sport take care mate

I was devastated to hear about Devons closure and know only too well how hard Lesley, Mick and Vern have worked to keep this club and the open week going.

Noone has got over the loss of Joyce but I believe the last straw was the BWRA AGM when Mick and Vern travelled 6 hours each way to go to it and found it very distasteful. Certain members were laughing and showing no respect to the top table who I personally think have done a grand job this year of organising our racing. You may say I wasn't there, no I could not afford to travel that far but heard the report first hand from Mick. He was so disallusioned as was Vern that this helped make up their minds to finish whippet racing.
