Hi all,

Good to be in the forum!

We have a challenging problem where our male chihuahua aged 1 keeps humping random limbs! We don’t want to neuter as want him to have puppies. Anyone else have the same problem?

Sam

Humping is seldom sexual, it is usually caused by over excitement (non sexual) or anxiety. How is his demeanor normally?

Can you ask for an alternative and incompatible behaviour like a sit when he starts?

Hmm...yes, he is in that age when his hormones start working over time. It is possible to train a dog not to hump us humans or at least to direct those actions to something more acceptable if that doesn't work or having him done is not viable option. As he gets older this behaviour can settle and not be quite so irritating and regular occurrence.
One of our terrier boys was bit on the frisky side and in the end we allowed him to do his thing to avoid this activity to be directed to us by leaving a jumper or other clothing on the pile on the floor. As we turned our backs he was soon there using the pile...;)...and then it all would go into washer  Funnily we tried to attract him towards suitable size soft toy...his own 'doll'..but it didn't work, something about it wasn't attractive enougho_O:D
