just wondering if anyone on the boards can point me in the right direction!

I'm looking for a whippet, but not a pup - which seems to make my task almost impossible!......does anyone have any suggestions?

Have PM you

thanks for the replies chaps (and chapesses!).....helpful people have indicated that putting some more information on here might be helpful, so the answers to various questions people have posed are:

I'm in birmingham - which although is obviously a large and sprawling city, has many wonderful parks - one of which ( a lovely private keyholder, fenced park) is directly behind my flat

The flat is biiiiiiiiiiiiig!

Both me and my partner work - but I work from home half of the week, and my partner works locally and pops back at lunchtimes (which is why we thought grown-up dog rather than a pup would be better)

We are looking for a pet - ideally quite a confident dog/bitch, as we have quite a shy (but totally trustworthy) 4 year old greyhound. She's an ex-racer and is coming out of herself nicely, but we've noticed that she really blossoms in the company of other dogs. we meet up with doggy friends as often as we can for her to have a proper bounce together in the park

We've not had a whippet before, but have had greyhounds for some time

We do have cats. However, we have not found this to be a problem in the past. Our last greyhound, Sid would have happily shredded them when they first met - but after a gradual and planned introduction over 2/3 months (lead and muzzle, then lead alone, and lastly muzzle alone) he got to the point that around the flat he wouldn't bother them - we never pushed our luck in the garden!.........we had planned the same intro for Audrey (our current greyhound) but she has taken her retirement very seriously, and refuses to chase anything!.............we also never leave dogs and cats together in the same room when we're out

so we are prepared to give any new dog the same kind of attention to make sure everyone gets off to a good start together

Phew! that was an essay and a half - I'll stop now! :D

good luck :luck: with so much info I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding a suitable flatmate

just out of interest (cos I am nosey!) why do you want a whippet instead of another greyhound?

Welcome to K9 Urchin good luck in your search :luck: :luck:

Have you thought of having a rescue Whippet, the information is pinned at the top of the board, particularly if you don't want a puppy?

Hi Urchin,

I am in Nuneaton and If I hear of any whippets looking for a home I will let you know

the answers to the 2 questions from Jan and Doris are related!

We had originally wanted a whippet this time, and rang the whippet rescue people to be told that there was a long waiting list - and there are always absolutely loads of ex-racers looking for homes in Retired Greyhound Trusts up and down the country.......So this is our girl Audrey

She's lovely and what a nice name

try posting on the non-ped whippet racing section you get a few looking for pet homes. good luck

Hi. There is a 10month brindle whippet boy for sale on www.epupz.co.uk He is priced at £350 and is not registered - in Wiltshire. I am looking for a boy pup too, but felt this was perhaps a little expensive for a non-registered whippy.

 sorry - obviously I didnt read the advert very carefully - he is registered. There are quite a few litters advertised on this particular website - some registered and some not.

I know about a 3 years old black whippet boy in Slovakia :p

The family is looking for a good home for him- they have other dogs-racers- and apparently he is not that fast...

So if you want to go thourgh a logistical nightmares... go ahead and PM me! :D

PS: There is a direct flight (budget airline) from Bratislava to Luton airport.. :- ) Sounds like a nice weekend trip to me..

PS2: He is a quality pedigree dog-good breeding (central european though), very nice and calm character.

:luck:

that easypup listing comes from Many Tears rescue and I noticed at dogpages, I think :- " it was message http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.ph...l=whippet&st=30

that Many Tears has a photo of a nice looking young whippet cross bitch who recently had a litter, and also a collie-sized parti-colour smooth lurcher who looks lovely

there are several older dogs that are taking time to rehome, for instance

whippet-cross "Blue": http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.ph...7862&hl=whippet

his picture is at:

http://www.chesterfield-rspca.org.uk/pages...dex.php?pets=20

and Baron, 7 year old whippet-greyhound who has raced well at nonpedigree whippet "no-limit" classes but recently had to have the tip of an injured toe amputated

he was a house dog until his human had a heart attack and couldn't care for his dogs any longer

see:

http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.ph...8686&hl=whippet

white Lodge Long dogs www.whitelodgelongdogs.co.uk

I also noted that Greyhound Gap, also advertising at dogpages.org.uk urgently needs or needed homes for two older whippet bitches. That notice was posted almost a month ago.

Well done ( 9 months) cant wait to see pictures. Good Luck :luck:
