Chid21,hope you don't mind a question.Do you enter any of the racing events?
I enter my lurchers into racing but to me its a bit of fun i race a 1/2bull 1/2greyhound that doesnt stand a chance its a bit of fun and i thought that was the point of gamefairs id put a few pictures up but nearly got banned of the site the last time my dogs are out every weekend in winter in snow heavy rain hunting foxes there wat i call working lurchers while all the racing dogs are lying in front of the fire or in there kennel waiting for summer to come so they can chase a plastic bag infront of a crowd

what won the whippet racing??
The lurcher that won the whippet racing at the last two game fairs won again on saturday Have a look at the pic its beside the terrier Roses

lurcher looks more like a whippet but then what would you expect when the organisers said if someone entered a dog with hair six inches long

on it and said it was a whippet they would agree They havent got a clue The racing after the master mcgrath was a disgrace never saw worse

dogs catching lure lure stopping it was hillarious at the last You would have thought it was their first but then this was the best team in the country according to Albert You need to wake up Albert and smell the coffee because yous are a disgrace
your fuxxing joking there aint no whippet in that picture that is disgraceful, took an interest as the tucker fella was on the thl gurrning that he had a non ped that he races against the peds and that albert fella posting on all the sites boasting that its the best game fair racing in Ireland :clown:

There is no way thats a whippet, and whoever owns it is a stupid person if they think its a whippet, and for it to be allowed to race in the WHIPPET race is a total disgrace on the part of the organisers, Irelands greatest game fair, i think not in this instance!

correct mate... no didnt forget (and it was nice meeting you) and a few people over here will have seen me at the shows but like i say they dont interest me only go for the craic... (been to 9 shows in my time and the only one ive been to twice is the newtownards show cause its 5 mins away from me).... i have paraded my dog around a ring but it confused me when i heard some one say my dog dont like the rain... or when some one had chalked up there dog to make it whiter ...been to 1 show in the last 2 years ...

I applaud your keeness on your dogs and your sport but the whippet racing and the status of one particular dog is just a very tiny part of the large event that we organise. Because some people are disputing the status of a particular dog does not in any way detract from the size, attendance, and overall status of the greatest game fair in Ireland.

I have taken more of a personal interest in the terrier and lurchers recently but to put it into perspective we fantastic gundog events and had international gundog teams from Wales, ROI, NI and Holland - definitely not only the best but the only real international event and over 60 golden retriever owners from all over the UK. All of these people who go to much bigger fairs in the UK and elsewhere were extremely complimentary about the Shanes Castle event as were our UK exhibitors who again are rather more knowledgeable about the comparitive strength of events. .

I have made some suggestions elsewhere about how this problem can be resolved but knocking an event because of one competitor is not the way forward.

I see where you are coming from Hogie, you have working lurchers, and you attend shows in the summer for fun.No probs with that at all, cause thats what you and lots of others do every year  but the world would be a boring place if everyone had the same ideas about what they want to do.I got into lurcher racing after initially having working dogs.My OH and I attended a couple of shows(just for fun) and enjoyed looking at the running events, infact found and still find the showing boring, but each to their own.Was fortunate to have a dog given us and started taking part in a bit of racing. The dog by the way was non ped bred.Initially we worked him,and we were quite happy with his exploits on rabbits, and he was mustard on partridges on the lamp, but i'm afraid (or not)cause he had loads of speed and ability on the track, and because we are both very competitive, the racing took over, and i've been fortunate to never look back. Most lurcher shows are not advertised as 'working' lurcher shows, and I have always looked at a lurcher show as a place where dogs that are built and would be capable of working, are put on show.We all know that not every dog in the show ring or on the track as been worked by there owners, but that does not mean, they wouldn't given the training be able to work.I am sure if you were to ask the serious racers whether they would prefer to race or show they would proberbly tell you give them racing anyday, but that doesn't mean they would knock people who show their dogs.I am more than certain had you non ped racing in ireland as we do here majority would be involved in that, but you don't and lurcher shows over in Ireland cater for dogs that are capable of working but owners choose to race them instead. Why not enjoy watching the racing and entering for a bit of fun if you wish, but don't knock folk who choose to take it more serious, and attempt to win

Yes, i'd be shocked if anyone who attended the racing and the showing didn't have fun. It was two great days of racing and showing in fantastic surroundings and the weather was kind. Looking at many of the photos there's a lot of smiles on peoples faces and the banter was great. People are making points and highlighting areas were it can be improved to make it better for the future.

There's not too many people like Albert who come on to a public forum looking for ways to improve lurcher showing and racing. In fact if he hadn't have been at the Master McGrath Challenge i think it may have been a disaster. He took the advice from lurcher people and made sure that the lure and van was moved back a further 30-40 yards so that the dogs were still driving at the line, something that others had refused to do. Also i feel that there may not have been a re-run for the final if he hadn't have been there. I'm not an Albert kiss ass, i'll speak my mind, but he's willing to listen and take on board the suggestions being made.

I definitely think that its time to have an under 21" racing class for the smaller lurchers/non peds. Just a suggestion:-

1. Ped Whippets

2. Whippets

3. Under 21"

4. Under 23"

5. Over 23"

correct darren, makes sense too , as we said theres too many knockers that are hellbent on stirring shit, however ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY, changes are being made to make this event , bigger better and far more enjoyable for all, because the organisers ARE listening to criticism, but theyre DOINGsomething about it-----i look forward to returning next year
