Should puppies be given water at night

You got dressed, @Ari_RR ?:eek: I have memories of standing in the middle of the garden on a cold February night wearing just a nightie!
 
It wouldn't be the first time for me to take a puppy into a dark garden for a wee, with only a T shirt top on and a pair of slippers:eek:

My 3 sleep upstairs with me i dont have a water bowl in my bedroom but they are quick enough at letting me know when they need anything.
 
At 5 weeks the puppies should still have access to their mum and not completely weaned! But if they have been properly weaned by this very early age, they should of course have access to water.
 
I provide minimal water to my puppies at night. They won't get a large amount, but enough to have a little if they do get thirsty. I do have a general dish in my bedroom for my dogs once they aren't crated at night, but they don't drink a lot at night anyways.

But if you wake up in the middle of the night thirsty you can make a drink, that's the difference. Just think if a dog had a drink at 8pm, and at 11pm wanted another but its owners had gone to bed and removed the bowl. By the time 6am comes, the dog has gone 10 hours without a drink. People brag their pups are house trained overnight, but I'd rather let a pup have water even if it means getting up overnight

Most dog food manufacturers say a dog must have a constant supply of fresh water too.
 
What happens to a puppy or any dog fed on dry kibble,that are shut in a cage. Their water needs are quiet different to ours we don't feed ourselves on all dry food and we can also access a tap at all times!
 
I know that cages can have their uses, if used correctly and for the right reason.:rolleyes:
More often than not I think they should be banned!
The more I hear of puppies /dogs being caged all night and again in the day while the owner goes to work full time, the more I dislike them.

Years ago people only had puppies if they didnt work ...today its well the puppy will have to fit in with Me hence puppy being crated most of its life ...and alot of adolescent dogs in rescue ....its an I Want I Can Have society regardless of the pups needs and well being :mad::(
 
Can I just mention that the OP, Hollysh, was simply asking a genuine question because she'd heard different things - there should be no implication that she is negligent, uncaring or lazy. She just wants to do the right thing for her puppy, like the rest of us:)

I was most certainly not having a direct "dig" at

Actually it was a puppy pen that was mentioned in the first post.
I am sorry if I have offended @hollysh.
 
Don't worry @excuseme , I didn't think you or anyone else were having a go at her. But I know how easy it is for things to be misinterpreted on the internet. In turn, I'm sorry if I offended you!
