I am looking for a stud dog for my bitch tipsy, unfortunately she would not stand for

Fine and Dandy today, and he is quite a bit bigger than her. She is only 19lb were he was 29lb and the fact that she was a little nervous added to the problem.

Anyway I was hoping to find a dog a little closer to home, so that Tipsy is feeling a little more romantic on arrival!

I was hoping to find contact details for the following dogs and this seems the easiest way of doing it.

Also Red Devil is Tipsy`s sire so are half brothers too close???????????????

Anyway

Fuller Spirit, Talk of the Devil, Just like the Devil, Just for fun.

Please feel free to email me any advice, if I cant find the right dog I will leave things until the little angel is ready for love!

Could the owner of whichever stud you decide upon not take your bitch for a few days? Usually makes all the difference with nervy bitches.

Fuller Spirit in my opinion is too close as hes Red Devils brother, Talk of the Devil is a Red Devil son who going by both of his parents sides, hes too close aswell (only in my opinion though) ........Just Like The Devil isn't up for stud yet :thumbsup: .........And Just For Fun is a bitch :- " .........Are you planning on keeping one from this litter this time ?????
 
Shant be keeping any more, 2 is enough for me!

I dont know anybody well enough to happily leave Tipsy with them. Any suggestions are very welcome. Strike whippets you know just about everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL .....I only answered your question :) ........Can I ask though (without starting world war 3) ........Why are you breeding another litter without wanting a pup from it ???? .......

Never had a problem mating big dogs to little bitches. If she wasn't standing, its more likely it was the wrong day.

About the other dogs you mentioned........ what Hanna said :)

Yep, the 10th day is a myth, my last litter came from a mating on 20th day (w00t) , and we did try from the 10th :( , every day. Who said that the stud fee is a quick buck for the stud owner? :D

Can I ask whyyou need to breed a litter if you aren't keeping one of the pups??

My dad has kept whippets since the year dot as did my grandfather both until they retired anyway. They have always said to have 1 litter from your bitch to `settle her down`.

They went by the thought it sorted thier hormones out and turned them from a girl into a woman so to speak.

And it really worked well for Violet. So with all the different advice you can get from the millions of dog keepers there are who better to listen to than good old DAD!

bit of a myth, that. having a litter wont mature a bitch, or any other female. personally, imo, i dont think a bitch should be bred from until shes mature already, because immature bitches have been known to react badly to their pups. they freak out a bit, ending (if lucky) with hand rearing, unluckily with death of up to the entire litter :(

one of the mothers at the school told me about the mother of her pup (bull x lurcher) who went completely nuts, killing not only a few of the litter, but also the sire (am.staff...so you can imagine how nutty she went :( ) and she was a young bitch when bred, her son being 10mths now, her just 2 1/2yrs.
 
I would like to thank you all for your kind advice, none of which I asked for!

And would greatly appreciate help and advice for the question at hand. It was help and advice I asked for, in finding a suitable stud dog for now or most probably the future. I am sure I am not the first on here to have a litter from my bitch when I do not anticipate keeping a puppy!

Are we unable to get helpful and constructive advice on here anymore?

I know you are annoyed Firemansam, and I'm sorry about that, but I think you and others in your position have to look at things from the the other side of the coin too.

It is easy to see why whippet breeders get upset over this sort of thing. Let's face it, they spend a lot of time and effort (and money) campaigning their dogs at shows, travelling the length and breadth of the country to make a name for their kennel. Similarly racers spend a lot of time racing and campaigning their whippets too. Once their dogs have earned a title, or show a lot of potential, then they finally decide to breed a litter to pick another promising youngster for themselves or to continue the line, or occasionally to see a little reward for all their efforts and to plough something back into all the outlay they have incurred.

It doesn't mean to say that someone can't breed from a pet, for the pleasure of having some pups and seeing them go onto good homes or because it may be deemed as beneficial. However, one can't help but start to question someone's motives when there is clearly a trend starting, which is what has happened here. :oops:

Sorry...I know this wasn't asked for (and it is really none of my business), but as I say, it's worth standing back, and looking at things from a different viewpoint from time to time.

Oh dear..I'm going to be classed as a trouble maker now :oops: ....and usually I try not to judge or criticize where I don't know the full circumstances. This goes very much against the grain. Sorry! :b

Very well said Nicola, i agree totally, only breeding when i want a puppy myself, i am with you on this one. Sorry if you take offence Firemansam.

Yes, and I remember the days on the estates near where I grew up when EVERYONE had this idea, you had to have one litter before they were 'doctored' for the well-being of a bitch; consquently everyone was swimming with pups that couldn't be homed properly, most of which roamed the streets as their eventual owners didn't really have the time to look after them and were eventually run over or ended up being euthanized at the pound. :( I think this is a very old-fashioned idea and very glad it's time is now past. The vast majority of bitches are very content and healthy without ever having a litter.
