i returned on wednesday to find out that my animal sitter cleaned out bobby n frank (my ferrets) and didnt lock the outdoor run properly and bobby has ran off

i know its easy done b4, and he was very sad that this has happened ........ but i cant help be mad. Icant explain the love i feel for the lil guy - he usualy greats me every morning night, loves cuddles and is always involved in all my parties :angry:

Dog sitter man has informed the vets, had shout outs on the radio etc etc, so he has tried but to find a letter when i returned to say bobby has gone just made me wanna cry and never go on holiday again .......

ive made posters phoned every rescue possible, even the police.

but no one cares about a "ferret"

i hope i find him, or at least someone does and takes good care of him.

Has there been any sightings ? If u live in a built up area ? he could still be close by (ie under a shed in a neighbours garden ) dont give up all hope .

I was thinking same. TC's ferrets all escaped a couple of years ago. She caught 3 of the 4 within the first few hours, and the last one took a few days. There were sightings in the immediate neighbours' gardens, but eventually she found her under her own shed.

Definitely knock on doors around your house and/or put flyers through their letterboxes.

Flyers through neighbours doors is a good idea, he might not have gone far away if he's found somwhere warm and dry to hide.

still no signs of bobby

and frank is loosing weight - can ferrets go off there food cos his lil friend has gone.

I do have a big enough enclosure to have another one (or two or three :- ) so i think for franks health i need to find him a friend soon ..... hes depressed.

Was about to say the same thing. It was a good few days later. I'd left the ferreting box out with food and every night it was untouched so I feared the worst. Just when I didn't expect it she popped out as though nothing had happened :wacko:

I posted fliers in about 300 doors and reported my loss to the vets and put up posters in the local shops etc.

On a completely different note we got a phonecall earlier this year asking if we had a spare hutch as a ferret had been found in a local factory. It's on acres and acres of ground and goodness knows where he'd come from. We said we'd keep him until the owner turned up (which they never did) but he had obviously been out in the wild a while yet he was healthy and happy and is actually the soppiest ferret we have and one of our best workers (w00t) so they really can survive very well and I'm sure Bobby will be fine.

I'd suggest ringing your local rspca as well in case he ends up there.

Just seen your last post. Ferrets are very social animals and really don't do as well on their own so a mate would probably be a good idea and if Bobby turns up then what's another one lol!

but....................

today ive got "freddy" from a rescue who is a casterated male about 4yrs old and very soppy ..... ive let him n frank sniff etc they seemed fine (all my ferrets ive ever had have been fine to introduce) and then freddy attacked frank ..... frank screamed and hide - he did this 3 times ..... so currently they are split up........ freddy has lived with others before and so has frank ..... but freddy in teh rescue was jumped on by some girlies - and they bullied him so they seperated them.

will i just have to let them sniff etc for teh next few days - frank is submissive but freddy still wants to bite him..... i hope they settle down?

any tips? i want them to become friends asap

If it were me I'd not feed them tonight and then tomorrow put Frank somewhere safe and completely clean out the hutch. Spray it well with cage cleaner and then when it's all clean and they will be hungry put some tasty morsels in. Rabbit, chicken or a bowl of beaten egg or something to hopefully take their mind off each other in the first instance.

There will no doubt be some scrapping but to be honest I'd let them get on with it unless one or the other is bleeding. They need to determine the heirarchy between themselves and Freddy will soon realise that Frank is submissive and it's a done deal.

Awww I hope Bobby comes home soon.

One of mine got out a few months ago, we let them all out for a runaround on the "ferretproof" :- patio but we think she managed to scale the hutch door & go over the top of the fence.

My next door neighbour must think I'm mad as I was crawling round his garden looking under his decking calling "Frisbee" & waving bits of grape around.

I went & put loads of posters around, checked the grounds of the nursing home at the back and by this time it was dark. I was crying my eyes out by now as I thought she'd gone forever when Neil went outside for another look & there she was, scratching at the hutch door trying to get back in to her brother & sister

She's been missing for about 4 hours and was shattered, she's had a right adventure & went straight to bed -_-

How very sad for you but don't give up hope as 8 or 9 years ago 3 of our ferrets escaped one night while we were out. Our dogs alerted the next door neighbours who managed to catch 2 of them but the other went missing. Next day we put fliers up on lamp posts etc. around our neighbourhood and later that day someone rang to say it had been picked by a taxi driver from a local firm who had rode around with it in his boot for about an hour before finally releasing it into the wild at near a bridge about 3 miles away from home. That night we went up there with fliers etc. and searched the area, while we were there a lady came down the road with her dog and after talking to her it emerged that she had seen it that morning curled up dead at the side of the grass verge. When she came back later it had gone,presumabley taken by a fox. At this point we gave up hope but a week later we had a phone call to say that a lady had picked a ferret up running round a nursery school about 400 yards from our house. She brought it round and low and behold it was her. Now bearing in mind that she had been released in the country she had managed to travel about 2 miles in the direction of home and crossed 2 busy main roads to get to where she was found, so never give up hope.We've still got her now.
