Just got back from Portsmouth Greyhound Stadium ( only live 5 mins away from track sheer bliss ). Great days racing, a number of racers had travelled down from the North of England so it was great to see them come and support an open in the South, The terrier racing was a huge success although only a few entered.

The track is in superb condition and one of the rules to be able to race there was that no kick boards were allowed, and it didn't make any difference to the races

the dogs still trapped well. The big difference it made was to the amount of time

it took between races, what a difference it made, no messing about or waiting for owners to find their own trap boards.

the terrier racing was won by Biscuit

Under 23" lurcher race winner was Minsters Rocket

Over 23" lurcher race was won by Meisha

Now now Gary I'm sure Doreen had a very stressful drive home :sweating:

A good weekend was had by all here. We drove down on the Saturday, stopped in Southampton on Saturday night and nipped nown to Portsmouth in the morning.

No winners for us although Jessica was a r-up. It was great seeing them run in their first adult bend race a real learning curve (pardon the pun).

Lovely too see Talli going round cleanly after breaking the bone in her foot earlier in the year (though I think I'll leave off with the strapping next time :b ).

Bookie was enjoying having his pockets well and truly emptied  What a brave man.

See you all around :teehee:

well done all the winners, hope all came home safe and sound :luck:

Went to visit the track at Portsmouth on Saturday what a pleasant surprise it was as the track was first class. We went to watch the greyhound racing on Saturday evening was most enjoyable and thought at the time how lucky we were to have a track as good as this to run our whippets on, definately has the edge on Hall Green and if they are happy with us, which hopefully they were we will certainly hold another event there.

Racers who made the journey down from the Midlands said it took them 3 hours which lis less time than it takes us to travel to Highgate or Askern, so Karen you can forget saving up for that aeroplane for you and Steve now.

Regards

Sheila

Remember we're up near Morecambe..

It would be at least a 5 hour run for us-

I've got the old lad Stevie to think of...he'd need a week in bed to recover-aint getting any younger u know...lol

Bert did kindly offer his caravan to us...but that would have meant sharing with Linda.

Past all that I'm afraid (w00t) lol

Anyway glad it all went well....

All darn Sarth together...with thi Paps.

great track good days racing pity more didn't bother to support it must thank Bert and Jane for putting me up. Well done LUDACRIS what a cracking final ( lost a tenner on you) well done Free Spirit

the good thing about no kickboards was you didn't have to keep striding over them round the traps the bad thing it certainly DID make a difference to a lot of the dogs trapping

well done all the winners thanks to the organisers for a great day

And we're only 20mins from Askern and Highgate Karen, these southerners must save up and buy something better than a reliant robin  .

National Speed Limit 70 not 40

:teehee:

we would have love to come down and run, but i would not run my dogs with no kickboard, :b why could you not use them ?? anyone know, think it would be to far for the bend champs, we have to take into account that member in scotland would need a day just to get there,

Please don't go down that road nobody has even suggested that Portsmouth should be used for the BWRA Bend Championships, it seems certain people on this site takes things out of context and they can't wait to stir up trouble when there isn't any.

We booked Portsmouth for our open because Warwick is unavailable and no other tracks were suitable or available either, when we ran Warwick it took us three hours to get there to run a meeting and it also took two and a half hours for us to get to Portsmouth but the event was a great success and well worthwhile making the journey although our dog was too poorly to run. Hopefully we will be able to hold another meeting there if the Management was happy with the event. As already mentioned it's a track you feel happy about putting your dogs round and by not being able to use floor boards the time saved was very noticable.

it looks a very nice track, and would have been there but for the kickboard, was this just something that you put in place for the south coast champs, or will it be all opens on at this track, just a personal thing that i would not run my dogs without one,
