With the start of the show season underway i wonder if other people out there have an opinion regarding showing.. One of my main gripes is the height s 23 and under should mean 23 and under but time and again 23 and half inch dogs are winning the class, yes you all know who you are i heard one chaps conversation saying his dog was over but was going to show it in the unders as it looked a bit small against the bigger dogs so how do you think the owner of a 22 inch dog feel being beaten by a bigger dog.If your dog is good it will win in its correct class. At the other end of the scale 25 and a half inch dogs are put in the over 26 class because there are fewer dogs in the class. I think also more judges should measure the dogs to ensure they are in the correct class i myself will be judging this year and will have a measuring stick so no cheating aloud because thats what it is. And my last gripe is if you have qualified for one of the big competitions give someone else a chance by not competing with the same dog i know some will say the reserve goes through but it also means other people in your class never gets to qualify. All i am saying is play fair and make 2010 enjoyable and sporting for everyone thank you

some good points there, and i to have judged all ready and plan on judging afew more times this year aswell, i do think it falls on the judges head to decide on what happens in the ring, if he/she thinks the dog is to tall or short, ask for it to be measured,,,,, but i do now afew people who will judge and if they believe that a dog is in the wrong class, they'll just disgard it and go for another dog, but dogs can look misleading so how hard can it be just to have the measuring stick leaning up in the corner even if its just to catch those cheating :thumbsup:

but, regards to entering dogs that have already qualified, i think that if you've got a dog that is good enough to win more than once through out the year, then so be it, surely it will have gone infront of different judges and it wouldnt be fair on that dog for it to qualify at the beginning of the season and then to sit back, wait and watch all the other dogs go into the ring and only come out to play again at the championships,

these are just my views, but there is one thing i totally agree with

Hi i think that would course more propblems for lots of reasons. 1 no to sticks are the same, the ground has to be falt which a feild NEVER is, but more in portent some dogs are scared of a stick.Which as a judge part of are job is to judge the dog not scare it half to deaf. But like you said if a dog is good it will win in its correct class, but that goes both ways wheather the dog is 22" or 28"it will win what ever class it is put into at the end of the day it is a dog show. if a red ticket means that much to some people mybe they should try curffs. As for if a dog wins at a qualifying show that dog should not show at any more qualifying show is just wrong. If you have a dog that is winning then they should be aloud to show it where ever & when ever they want. i am sorry but who are we to try & tell people when they can show there dogs. :angry:

You do have some valid points but the last bit would never work, some people go to shows to try and win that paticular show they are at, it is not all about quailifying

it is nice to try and win as many shows as you can, but you have to remember different judges like different types and the chance of you winning every show is near on impossible, as it is only a bit of fun i say try and win as many as you can if your dog is a good one :thumbsup:

I agree with 'Debbie b', but I think there are other issues to consider as well, I am only talking about my own situation, but I am sure there are many other people who have one or two dogs, but enjoy going to the shows to meet up with friends & showing their dogs etc.

First of all, if I have a qualified dog, & then was pressurised into stop showing him, in this climate of rising fuel prices, I could not afford to go to a show just to chat to people !!

Secondly 10-15yrs ago the only qualifiers were the NLRC & The Midland Game Fair, it has all changed now & ALOT of the shows are triple or even quadruple qualifiers eg. South West Lurcher Championship, Pride of the Peaks, Earth Dog Running Dog, Welsh Vallys, Heart of Wales & North Wales etc. Perhaps people would like to qualify their dogs for those too!

I suppose if you have a large number of showing lurchers, if you felt that strongly you could always withdraw that one from general showing & 'bring' it out for the appropiate championship, but the majority of people haven't.

Different judges like different dogs, but at the end of the day a good dog will always come thru.....the cream rises to the top.

There would be a major uproar if restrictions were put on the people who love to race their dogs on a regular basis !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
