hi last week i was worried about flaky skin in my new whippet doctor thought it was ring worm because my son had an infected area on his tummy turns out it wasnt with cream my son is better alot of you gave me advice on different things so i tried sardines gave these to two of my dogs who both now have developed pus filled spots in their groin area any ideas if they could have an allergy to fish any advice would be grateful. :(

hi trish, sounds like a grass rash to me,it doesnt seem to bother them at all and once the little spots burst the skin goes flaky.

i usually put some aloe vera on the area.

my dogs have a fenced in area in the garden which is concrete they do have a run on t he grass but my older dog never had it but now she has and she been on grass alot the puppy maybe but i dont understand why the older dog also has it but thanks for your reply. :)

i think whippets get it because the hair on their bellys and thighs is so thin, even bald in some cases, what breed is your older dog????

Sounds very much like a grass rash to me too. I don't know why your older dog would have just started to get it now  my bitch always gets a rash but my dog never does.

kiplin as quite a thick coat on him and as never had it,but all the others have and they are rather thin coated so dont have as much protection

my other dog is a yorkie i have phoned my vet and they want to have a look at both of them tommorow especially because of the rash my son had.

If you have a look at some of my old topics there is one called coat condition. On page 3 is a picture of Mollys spots which she gets from grass. Just a picture for you to compare to your dogs to see if its similar. I won't post it on here again cos its a bit 'porno'!!!!

Actually, I'll link it here

Woo hoo! That was my 1000th post :D

hi everyone but panic over with the flaky skin and pus filled spots it turns out the new whippet puppy although i checked her for fleas when i brought her home it seems she must have had them because i have also been bit so it seems that my son had an allergic reaction to a flea bite so did the dogs the dogs have now all been flead and wormed and all bedding washed and everywhere well hovered i hope i have got on top of the situation but we have had the dog three weeks today so i will continue to be as throuha as possible thanks for all your replies . :b
