poor star, im so glad shes home safe :huggles:

there clever little things, ruby and star were 4months (ish) when star was attacked and ruby didnt run home but she ran back to my car (now really how clever is that for a baby) she had to cross a road and a carpark and stopped right by my car were a guy who she'd passed on the road cought up with her and held her till i cought up.

it stressed me out big time all the what if's but i think just getting out again asap did a world of good. the best bit advice i was given at the time was to not show the girls i was worried, cause they pic up on it, and i think it worked. I really hope your all ok and can get back to your usual happy stress free walks again soon xxx

can i just add my own warning to what happened to you as the same thing happened to us yesterday but thank god he did not run home but stopped at the side of an incredibly busy road. there is a huge flat grass area before we get to the woods where we often walk and there are usually no dogs about but yesterday there was a dalmation, boxer and a couple of small dogs playing and as we started to walk down the dogs came flying towards us wanting to play with our dog so I told OH to let him off as we were well into the grass area and near to the wooded area and they looked friendly enough. they were friendly dogs but were playing rough and our dog suddenly got spooked and ran like the wind with the other dogs in hot pursuit thinking what a great game this was but he ran straight back towards the road and only stopped as there was a big wooden gate that stopped him. we all screamed at the same time as the lot of them were heading for this road and thank heavans they all stopped.

i just thought i would add this as it happens in a heartbeat and he has never done this before but it was a pure flight or fight situation and looking back it would have been my fault for asking OH to let him off his lead to play - please bear this in mind as it happens so fast and you feel so horrible for not seeing the danger and thinking what could so easily of been......

I know exactly what you are trying to explain Lisa, they can all take off so quickly whether or not the situation is a hostile one or a friendly one, I spose its similar to being on a bolting horse, another situation which can happen so quickly yet have such terrifying consequences. Looking back on our incident, I would actually had ample time to catch my 2 and put them on leads before the other dogs actually got to them, but I didn't. Firstly my dogs had never really given me reason to do this before, as I said, they tend to play with anything, and secondly, I have perhaps this rather misguided idea that they are better off running away from trouble if they can. As it was, mine (and yours!) could have so easily run INTO trouble. I just cant believe that a dog that rarely leaves my side would panic enough to run that far, but as you say it happens so quickly and you've got a whole lifetime to beat yourself up about it afterwards

I know how you must be feeling, last year Penny got attacked and managed to pull out her collar and run off away from them. I was the exact same saying what if this had happened. You are lucky that Star found her way home and is safe and well :huggles:

I get cold shivers just thinking about what you went through - THIS IS ONE OF MY WORST NIGHTMARES!!!! I'm SO, SO So pleased Star's gaurdian angel :luck: was with her.
