I'm hoping to get a greyhound and was just wondering whether they are smelly. I've had friends who've had dogs (mostly Cocker Spaniels) and they made they house smell quite bad. A little bit of smell is okay (I have quite a few rats and they don't smell strong). I thought 'cos they are short haird and, well, they look clean that they might not be too stinky?

ignore him Sarah....set Alex and Ace on him to bite his bum (w00t)

Sarah....greyhounds NOT smelly .......like most dogs if they are brushed regularly and bathed if they get dirty they are fine.....my whippets aren't smelly unless they roll in fox poo (w00t)

as a fellow rat owner (a fewe years ago now :( ) I can say my greyhound dont smell as much as a rat does..

although her poos an wees are a damn site bigger !! (w00t)

I think washing a dog looks like a fun challenge! and Fox poo...nice

Yeah they are TAME beautiful rats, as I'm sure some people like Whippets Rule understand fully. Well I have ten rats, so they dog shouldn't be noticeable then! Plus my Dad has no sense of smell hehe

I have 4 greyhound now lost one this week and i am a houes proud clean freak and can say hand on hart there the least smelly dog I have ever come across when it comes to doggt smell mine only get bathed twice a year unless they get realy muddy I usualy give them a good bath wne they molt about june it gets any looses fur out quicker and then one at xmas i have 9 dogs in here a mixs of greyhounds ad whippets and my next door nabours houes smell realy doggy when i go round there and all they have is a yorkshire terroris. Greyhounds can be prone to wind though espeacly when they have a chnage of food but thats there only wif

HI,GREYHOUNDS HAVE GOT SHRT COATS THAT ARE EASY TO CLEAN,MY GREYHOUND DOSNT SMELL AT ALL.ALTHOUGH I MUST SAY SHE DOES HAVE STINKY WIND!!!!! SHE STRETCHES HER LONG BODY OUT THEN..PARP!THEY MAKE GREAT PETS THO.LOVING AND LOYAL AND CLEAN.WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR? o:)

Because they only have one layer of fur they definitely don't stink!! My boys smell beautiful and there is nothing better than snuggling up to a grey and having a sniff!!

You don't get the drying dog smell either when they are wet, it's great!

My greyhound and whippets don't smell William gets bathed regulary because of showing him and him being white .He hasn't had a bath since his lath show in december but he doesn't smell unlike the stinky red setter wwho goes for a walk jumps in all the muddy puddles then stinks the house out for the rest of the day :x

When William has a bath he is dry in 10 minutes a good rub with a towel and thats it Zoe the setter has a bath then its 2 hours on the grooming table drying her with a hair dryer

Hehe I saw another topic about their wind. If I can put up with my Dad's I think I can put up with a doggies. I read in a book about whippets being 'odour free' and I thought greyhounds would be similar, because they're not all furry and won't get so much stuck in their fur.

In my opinion, whippets and greyhounds really aren't naturally smelly :*

They do however, have tendecies to roll in disgustingly smelly things, and they can be producers of disgusting smells, generally after they've eaten the disgustingly smelly thing that they just rolled in :x

They scrub up well though (w00t)

you just wait til you've tried sniffing behind their ears, Sarah

I'm not planning on letting the dog in the same room as the rats (who are in secure cages anyway) unsupervised! I'll close the door off so the dog can't reach the rats. Other people have dogs and rats with no problem,

I don't see why it should be a problem for me

it won't be a problem at all Sarah,as you know i have five dogs and several rats.

one of mine is a whippet x jack russell and even he isn't interested in the rats...although he likes the shunamite diet

Hi! greyhounds don't really have that 'doggy smell' at all. i think it' because their coats don't have the same oils that other breeds do - this also means they are less weather-proof though. I have a greyhound and a whippet - both smell lovely! :)

.... depends what they roll in :- "

My sister has a rescue Greyhound and her house never smells "doggy" i said to her about that, and she said she is just prone to a bit of stinky wind :x

But they don't smell like other dogs do(unless they roll in poo!) and the short hair helps.

We have labs and golden retrievers home sometimes and they do smell, more so if they have been out and got wet.
