So as not to hijack Kissi's thread about Belle's enormously fat face, it reminded me of a comment made by the judge at a recent show about my little old Sophie

Judge: "How old?" :)

Me: "Nearly 12 and a half" :)

Judge: "REALLY???"

Me: "Yes" :) very sweetly :* but meanwhile thinking Nah! I just thought

of the first number that came into my head :b (it was a Veteran class)

Judge: (Whilst going over Sophie) "Her coat is still very good"

WHAT???? At that point I just looked at her in amazement  ............ what did she expect? For Sophie  to look all motheaten or something????

Nowt so queer as folk :teehee: LOL!!

we have had on numerous occasions people holding back their dog by the leash because we are walking passed them,my 4 on their leads are not pulling and seem to just look at the other persons dog going crazy, and what does the other person say to us ," my youve got your hands full there" i said yeah and looked at his dog :lol:also a woman said it the other day why she was trying frantically to get her dog to come to her,she stopped screeching and looked at us walking passed all on leads ,and the famous words, wow youve got your hands full, its like what the heck  weve had this numerous times over the last few weeks and now im getting so annoyed with everyone that says it  my husband just laughs

I foster guide dogs when their owners are unable to care/exercise them. When I first started walking Willow (whippet x) after her front leg amputation people stopped me in the street to ask if she was "another one of your guide dogs".

Did make me wonder if they were the ones in need of a guide dog......

I worked for Guide Dogs for nearly 3 years - good on you for being a foster Mum!

I think the most ridiculous thing must be when a man asked if Chloe (a big brown Dobie) was a Whippet too (w00t)

Holly at 11 months as a Jack Russell (w00t)

After working as a postwoman for nearly 20 years, one of the best one people would come out with was 'Dont worry it wont bite you', often closely followed by 'Its never done that before' !

Walking my Borzoi and Whippet, and people asking if that was mother and her pup (w00t)

But best one was a woman who spotted us across the road, raced across and proclaimed proudly pointing at my Borzoi : " I know what that is! That's one of them Shih Tzus!" :teehee:

I was in a veteran class with Reggie last year, and while waiting my turn, was chatting to one of the other exhibitors with her 12 year Tibetan Spaniel. Apparently, when the judge went over her dog and asked it's age, she then commented "oohh, and she still has all her teeth" Well, yeh, not gonna show a dog with three manky teeth in it's gob! they may be veterans, but we keep 'em in good nick!

Did the judge have all her own teeth though Louise?

The one I get all the time is from people who think they know a bit about dogs & they say very confidently. " Oh, he's got quite a lot of Poodle in him hasn't he? about my blue Bedlington.

When I say, no, none at all they get all huffy & say, well they look the same!!

Once I was walking with my friend & her 2 standard poodles, one black & one silver, people thought Rafferty was their puppy

Talk about totally divvy

Funniest was when we were out over the lakes, hubby had the 2 Afghans, both bitches, one is a self masked cream & one a black masked gold.

I had the 2 young whippet girls both brindles one 6 months, one a year.

A couple stops us & she says to him " Oh look darling, aren't they all just sooo gorgeous"

She then turns to us & says " Bet it will be a while before the 2 babies grow coats like mum & dad " (w00t)  :teehee:

I had the same comment about Mayzee at crufts a couple of years ago when we had a foreign replacement judge . He was most surprised to see all her teeth still there , and white too , At 12 years of age she still out moved most of the class , :- " but we didnt get placed  :( but at least he gave the right bitch ,IMO, the CC and BOB ;)

From a different perspective, comments made like this whilst being judged i think are easy to laugh at BUT we have to take on board that maybe the judge is comparing our exhibit to maybe a different breed that they also judge/live with or maybe even one of the same breed that they own that has perhaps not aged quite as well?. I would say this is human nature if you are judging an incredible looking 12 year old knowing maybe you yourself have a dog at home many years younger but doesn't look half as good :- "

If we are being judged by breed/all rounder or totally non breed judge maybe they are comparing the exhibit in condition to other breeds & it is just a genuine comment.

Some toy breeds for example by say 7-8years of age have lost all their teeth plus are lucky to have hardly any coats left.

One of my whippets lived to nearly 17 & although most of her coat had gone white it was still as soft & plush as when she was 2 years old whilst another by the age of 9 had become really sparse.

Either way, i would take the comment as a compliment & it goes to show that obviously Sophie is a credit to you

if mine are out without coats on i get " ooohh i dont like greyhounds they are sooo skinney "

considering mouse is always overweight :b and jan has never been underweight

and that they are both whippets

as i was usually seen with rescue dogs ive been asked if they are both rescues too    i generally say yes anyway

I was out walking my two Tilly being a lot larger then bean who was still quite small, when a lady said

oh i know what that is its an italian whippet (w00t)

i said theres no such thing as an italian whippet :- "

She said oh yes there are my friend has them :*

I said oh that will be italian greyhounds then :p o:)

Um yes said she :b

Runs off to check theres no such thing as an italian whippet :b

I was walking a while ago when an old chap stopped and asked if my (then) 6 month old pup was a whippet or greyhound. So I said he was a whippet, to which he replied "you sure, he looks like he's got a touch of greyhound in him and I know a thing or two about whippets". With a fixed grin on my face I said I knew exactly where he had come from as he been bred by a friend of mine. But if he knew a thing or two about whippets he sure as hell knew nothing about staffies, because by his side was the fattest staffie I have ever seen, she was wider than she was long and was panting and could hardly walk. You know when you want to just stuff your fist in someone's face and tell them "a thing or two"!

This thread is really giving me a laugh!!

 :teehee:
