Loving, fluffy, companion.

He's probably my best friend (except when he wants to stop every metre on his early morning walk to sniff around in sub-zero temperatures and snow, when I've forgotten my gloves :p).

What about his barking at other dogs?

On our early walks, we either don't see any other dogs, or a few that he'll tolerate now, which we can pass reasonably close by without any barking. We did however see two other dogs this morning we've not seen before, and one came bounding over to us in a field, which caused a bit of quiet whining, but nothing else. He'll still bark if he gets surprised by another dog, for example coming around a corner. How are you getting on?

That sounds like such good progress. A little bit of progress. He didn't bark twice at two dogs who sit behind their garden gate. If I get him before his trigger and distract him whilst they walk further away, or we walk away, he only whimpers. We walked head long into two dogs stationary talking with their owners - both dogs that mine barks at!- and he barked, we then walked headlong into another dog, and later another dog. Not a good walk that day in the end. He is bonding in the house a bit better.

That's pretty much our story @doggie1. Keep at it, it does get better as you can see. I can't promise it'll get completely fixed, but it will get better :)

I hope you're right. This dog is hard work and probably not meant to be domesticated. He is a Patterdale, has a year of his life unaccounted for, his tail has been docked and he has already been down a foxhole and come back bloodied. He's obviously been a working dog and we are fighting a very strong prey instinct.

Pain...in...bum...:D:D but which one are we talking about ? We’ll go for Molly Springer I think;) love her to bits but I don’t enjoy being pulled along snowy and icy pavements at great speed ( keep telling her she’s not in the Winter Olympics !) a demon where food is concerned ( yes, normal for a Springer ) will not stand still so you can put coats, harness etc on, far too excited to get out on a walk :p costs me a fortune at the vets as she always manages to do or get some ailment every few months....let’s take the cost of £300 to remove a seed from her ear just because she wouldn’t let the vet do it with the tweezers ......goodness, that’s more than three words  but felt I had to justify it :D:D:D but do love her so much
