I've been looking at Sunny over recent weeks, thinking that he was looking old all of a sudden, so after a sleepless night I took him to the vets for a check up today

As I was telling the vet my worries, I realised that I was right to be worried - the vet thinks he may have cushings disease :(

He did a blood test and I had to collect a urine sample then was told to phone back later. When I called back he said that Sunny has raised cholestrol (sp) and liver enzymes and that he had small traces of blood in his urine (I hadn't noticed any) and that he needs to go in tomorrow to have more tests - I've not stopped crying yet :'(

To make him feel better after such a horrible morning, I took him out on his own to Ashridge, where we had a lovely time, the sun was out, it was warm and quiet and just a beautiful day - the lady in the tea room treated him to a sausage which really helped cheer him up! Then I shared my cup of tea with him and off we went for a walk.

He went hunting for rabbits, deer, birds and mice (didn't find any :p ) but did find a pond full of frogs and frog spawn :x and yes, I did have to stop him jumping in to get them - he even got a chance to do his favourite pass-time, plane-spotting (he is such a nerd!)

Here is Sunny popping in for afternoon tea

best thing about a whippet is that if you don't have enough food to feed it, it can go and find it's own food - Sunny did mostly be finding rabbit poo

My friend was told the same thing last year and was told that she would have to have her lovely old lurcher PTS but with treatment she responded really well and she is still zooming around the place now. :D

Sunny doest look like he is ready to give up, and neither must you. :)

He looks like a really handsome and special chap  I'd happily give him my sausage too :D

I'm off to bed for sleepless night, know its going to be a waste of time but can't really see through my horrible swollen eyes now, and my neck no longer feels strong enough to hold up my heavy head :(

good night get sum rest , sunny is lovely btw, im sure you will do all in your power to help, good luck :luck: :huggles:

Awww Sunny looks a gorgeous old fella - Hope everything works out well :luck:

I always thought that the first sign of Cushings disease is obesity and dry skin/coat. Sunny does not look particularly fat to me, nor does he have any of the other signs. It is is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure of the body's tissues to high levels of the hormone cortisol. I am sure it can be managed by medication. :luck:
