Aw, poor Smartie - glad the surgery went well and wishing the gorgeous lad a speedy and full recovery :luck:

Poor smartie, hope he's back with you soon and his recovery goes well.

Get well soon Smartie. Hope everything goes well.xxx

Got Smartie back this pm, just had to ring vet for advice as he has been crying since he has come home,he has had a wee, a drink and a syringe of food had all his pain killers just covered him over and hope he will settle

It is a big operation but spent lots of time with him so now may try (I know this sounds hard but) just to cover him and ignore him, any advice you can offer will help. The vets did say to ring back in an hour if he still bad. Poor little mite  The blue bandage was on for two days before the op and the red and green was on after the op

Oh Bless him  Poor little chap that is one BIG bandage! He probably feels awkward with it, probably sore but hopefully the painkillers will help. The crying may (and this is in no way an expert opinion, just based on personal experience) be as a result of him feeling disorientated after having a long general anaesthetic? When Rifle had to have a series of x-rays which would be a short GA by comparison, he cried for the next 36 hours!! He subsequently needed more x-rays when seen by a specialist and they used deep sedation instead after I explained how distressed he had been, different dog so it was not pain related in my opinion. He's probably anxious having spent so much time away from you too. As I say, I'm no expert but maybe keep him 'snugged up' and as long as he knows you are there then I hope that will help.

:luck: :luck: Smartie, home safe, just have to take it easy for a while.

Is Smartie any more settled now?

It's now quarter to 4 in the morning and he has been crying on and off since we brought him home from the vets 12 hours ago, we have taken him out for a wee, tried food, water, cuddles ignoring him!, blankets on and blankets off. When i rang the vets they said he had been given all his pain relief and to ring back if he didn't settle well he did for about an hour but that was it!!, I am shattered. If he doesn't settle then back on to the vets first thing, off for a cuppa now ! and husbands shift starts.

He is getting worse and more distressed so back to vets now :(

:( Sorry to hear that poor Smartie is still so distressed and you have had such a bad night. Hopefully the vets will be able to give him more effective pain relief.

Bandage changed, leg checked, just given tramadol and diazapam just hope it kicks in soon as still crying!!

Poor little Smartie, I do hope he settles soon. :(
