I know some of you have had exprerience of this and wondered what you thought of it. I'd like to try it on Jonah as he's quite a nervy dog and from what I've read I thought it might help him. There are quite a lot of books around but I don't know whether it's better to get someone to show me how to do it properly rather than try and teach myself from a book. Thoughts welcome.

Both me and my lady do this with jill, no expert at it, but she loves it, nice and calming

Thanks Keith  Yes, I've had a good look on Google and found loads of stuff. How did you learn how to do it on Jill? Was that from a book or just what you read online? I think I might get myself a book about it and have a go. :) It sounds as though it's quite relaxing for the humans too! :p

As i say Gillian, im no expert, but my lady watched a prog on tv about t touch, she gave it a go on jill as a pup, and it sent her  so now most mornings jill jumps on my lap and away i go, sends the two of us, very relaxing, just try it, you will soon pick it up, the dog will tell you if you are doing it right

:luck:

I bought a book on ttouch for dogs. Half read it and gave it a go on Archie, he didn't sit still long enough to do it. Willow enjoyed it, but no more than a normal petting session. I gave up on it after that. I think I'd need some to demo how to do it properly for it to sink in for me!!

I went on a one day course a few months ago. It was very good, I took Hebe with me & there were a few other demo dogs there too. Normally Hebe isn't a "touch feely" dog but she did seem to enjoy the different touches, except the feet, she doesnt like her feet messed with

Recently we've had all sorts of problems with Scrumpy as you know, last week we went to Tatton show. It was a bit noisy to say the least but at one point Scrumpy was lying with her head in my lap whilst I did TTouch on her ears. A lady nearby commented on how relaxed she looked -_- . You saw how stressed she was at your local show so that should tell you what a difference it made.

Apparently "ear work" TTouch is very very relaxing, I'd give it a try with Jonah. It can't do any harm even if it doesn't work. And whippet ears are just made for stroking anyway

I'll PM you with the details of the course I did :)

Thanks Julie (and everyone else). I've ordered a book from Amazon, but I think I will also take a look at that course as it's so close to me. :)

This might give people who've not come across it before an idea of what it's about.

TTouch™ - the Tellington-TTouch - is a method based on circular movements of the fingers and hands all over the body. The intent of the TTouch is to activate the function of the cells and awaken cellular intelligence - a little like "turning on the electric lights of the body." The TTouch is done on the entire body, and each circular TTouch is complete within itself. Therefore it is not necessary to understand anatomy to be successful in speeding up the healing of injuries or ailments, or changing undesirable habits or behaviour.

The Tellington TTouch is a specialized approach to the care and training of our animal companions. Developed by internationally recognized animal expert, Linda Tellington-Jones, this method based on cooperation and respect offers a positive approach to training, can improve performance and health and presents solutions to common behavioural and physical problems. It also helps establish a deeper rapport between humans and animals through increased understanding and more effective communication.

Using a combination of specific touches, lifts, and movement exercises, TTouch helps to release tension and increase body awareness. This allows the animal to be handled without provoking typical fear responses. The animal can then more easily learn new and more appropriate behaviours. By using the TTouch and a variety of other tools, like the Confidence Course, you can assist the animal in experiencing self-confidence in previously frightening situations. Even the most difficult problems are often eliminated. You can also learn how to apply the Tellington TTouch to assist with recovery from illness or injury, or just enhance the quality of your animal's life.

The Tellington TTouch can help in cases of:

· Excessive Barking & Chewing

· Leash Pulling

· Jumping Up

· Aggressive Behaviour

· Extreme Fear & Shyness

· Resistance to Grooming

· Excitability & Nervousness

· Car Sickness

Yes Gillian, I do it on Lenny and I only learnt from the book. Its very easy to do and Lenny has improved (in the house) no end from his massages :)

Its hasn't done a lot for his behaviour out of the house but then he does have a different background to Jonah.

Give it a go, its relaxing for you as well. Does Jonah ever sit down for more than a minute though :p

You can find videos on the T Touch too, if that's of any use. I found a site with a few vids but then lost it, unfortunately. If you do manage to find some videos, you can always try copying them. They explain it very clearly. Good luck! :luck:

Good luck with TT Gillian.... :luck: there is someone close to us that does this technique too.....they say she is brilliant with horses....and definitely worth a try. Let us know how you get on wont you please.
