after our lunchtime walk and bunny chase, talulla came back with a small cut on her leg - nothing bigger than cuts she has had before, so i took her home and salt bathed.

she was weight bearing but hobbling.

she ate her lunch and took to her bed - i noticed about 1/2 hour later that she was not actually sleeping and as the afternoon progressed she became slightly unresponsive and lethargic.

the wound had not changed but a lump had come up on the front of her foot.

i took her in to our vet who found that the wound was leaking joint fluid - talulla was taken in and anaesthetised, the wound cleaned and bandaged.

i have just had a call to say that she has come round, the wound has been flushed and she will come home with 10 days antibiotics with the view to extending this.

the vet mentioned that if a bug had been missed and the leg became infected that they would have to refer her on to a specialist - i am now worried sick that this will happen

how bad could it get?

can i do anything to prevent it getting worse?

any advice welcome x

I don't think you should worry, your vet will no doubt prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic which will take care of most nasties. Sometimes they give a couple of different antibiotics together, but that would only be done if they thought it necessary. I expect he was just warning you of what could happen, but hopefully it won't.

:luck: Good luck, and let us know how she's doing.

Hi Tracy,

Sorry to hear about Blues accident (Sorry, still think of her as Blue even after all this time!).

Sounds as if you have done everything possible for her and your prompt action has hopefully prevented any major damage or infection.

Had a horse who did exactly same injury in a hock joint. Healed with a scar but no lasting damage and became sound very quickly.

Keeping everything crossed for you.

Amie sends her sister a gentle hug and Fleur says get well soon to her daughter.

Love to you and Stephen and hope you are enjoying life in Scotland.

Debbie, Fleur and Amie.XXXX

PS had Mia (Black) to stay over the weekend. She and Amie had a LOVELY time

sending lots of :luck: and :huggles: that she gets better soon.

And :wavey: debbie, nice to see another west sussexer on here!

thank you all for your advice and a big hello to Debbie, little sister Aimee and mummy Fleur x

talulla was very groggy last night when she came home - she slept by my side all night but was restless.

today she is eating, drinking and barking at dogs walking past our house..... almost back to normal (w00t)

this evening she had her bandage changed and the vet said that it looked good with no swelling - i am giving her Calendula to help fight any infection.

i am a little worried that she has not been given any pain relief - and she is a little quiet this evening.

of course she is enjoying all the extra attention - and Bean is very glad to have her home

they are such a pair - when talulla was at the vet Bean did not know what to do with herself, and today i took them both to the vet rather than leaving Bean home alone - the fuss Bean made when they took Talulla in to the consult room!!

it proved to me how much they adore each other and how lucky we were to be able to give Bean a home

i will post pictures of the wounded soldier and her side kick as soon as i get a spare moment.

tracy, talulla and bean x
