Someone asked me this morning if Jasper is a Russian windhound. Is there such a thing? I've only found a couple of passing mentions online.

She had a slight foreign accent, which may or may not be relevant. I assume she's thinking of borzois as she said he was a similar size (so not silken windhound), but they are also known as Russian wolfhounds.

Yep, like I said, I'm assuming that's not what she meant as she referred to Jasper's size. Then again, I could spend ages googling images of silken windhounds!

I saw on FB this evening that two pointers I know had fallen ill and ended up on drips after their morning's walk in the local wood, and have been diagnosed as eating cannabis. The owner described the spot at which the dogs had temporarily disappeared... Mr R took Jasper to the same woods this morning... and Jasper also disappeared for a moment or two at the same point, only coming back after he'd called him a couple of times There but for the grace of God....

The owner was hopeful the dogs would be back with her at 10pmish this evening. I hope they're OK.

There are some irresponsible idiots out there. This really hammers home the need to keep our charges in sight whenever they’re off the lead. Caveat everyone.

Ruddy fireworks I ended up spending my teatime trying to reassure a quivering mass of jelly-dog, thanks to Mr Next-Door-But-One Tried to take Jasper's heartrate, but then another loud one went off and it was literally uncountable. He's not normally this bad - do dogs generally get more anxious with age (absent any other signs of dementia)?

Oh, and if anyone remembers my earlier post in this thread about the dogs who were thought to have eaten cannabis - I can report that they made a full recovery

They are going off like mad here, I had to check the time, I thought I'd fallen asleep and it was midnight.

A post in the Lurcher Link rescue chat FaceBook today, with a photo of a large brindle lurcher. The owner said she was mainly greyhound & deerhound, with a bit of Beddie and Irish terrier. An unusual mix, and the same as Jasper, so I asked how old she was. She's 11, came from the same place, and mum has the same name - it's Jasper's sister! She also has J's ridiculously long back... I was tempted to ask if she had any issues, but didn't want to hear that she was practically perfect. It would be interesting to compare 'quirks' though.

Gosh...what a chance to find a litter mate. I've tried to see if I come across our girls brother and sister, but no...found Iida's dad.

Yup - there were 9 in all, we had a choice of the last two, both fawn boys. Being inexperienced, we went for the less quiet one, not realising that they were all wild beserkers, and he was the wildest and the berserkest (if that's a word)!

We met his mum and one sibling a few times over the first year or two. Even at 6 months old, his sister growled at him when he tried to say hello nicely. His mum was a racer and would get so worked up she would sometimes redirect onto her owner, so there were a few dodgy personality traits in there... Mind you, I've also seen a photo of one of his brothers sitting next to about 50 dead rabbits that he'd just helped despatch, so I'm assuming he didn't have the guardy issues Jasper has.

If I get the opportunity to play it, you'll find out Though sadly, WWF doesn't recognise it as a word. I still think that it applies to Jasper though!

He chose to walk along Cat Alley this morning... Which I suspect he does partly because he knows there's the potential for many treats. I only go down there when Mr N is with us, as it's easier for him to hang on and stay upright if J has a meltdown. We passed not one, not two, but THREE cats, and he managed to rein himself in each time, only barking a couple of times at the last one. He's practically had a second breakfast in treats!

I'm not sure he's the chatty type - when I confirmed that they were siblings, he just liked my post but didn't comment.

Just thought I'd pop to the cafe for a quick 'what the hell?!' moment.. I was in the park walking 'my' entire dog this morning, on a lead as usual; a beautiful young cockerpoo came running over, my dog was fine with her, then the owner came and got her on the lead quick, saying " she's in season, her recall is usually really good but she's not listening to me at the moment..." sometimes I really do despair. I did politely(I must of been in a good mood!) point out to him he should have her on the lead at all times during her season, especially as he was choosing to walk her in a busy park with a lot of entire males mooching around off the lead. To boot it was her first season!! Please don't risk it I said, she will have one thing on her mind also and it certainly won't be coming back to you when you call her!..(excuse the italics but yes it was a male owner)
