:( Just a reminder - as animal lovers the McCartneys program is on BBC 1 at 9.00pm TONIGHT . A Documentary against the market in dog and cats fur. :(

we were in one of the warehouses in manchester last week and they sell bags and scarves etc.i saw some scarves made up of fur pom poms and asked where they came from.china was the answer and theyre not real fur.im not an idiot i said, they are real fur,i used to keep rabbits so i know what real fur looks like.the warehouse owner was mortified.hed been told by his supplier that they were fake fur. i think hes going to send them back.i used to have a rabbit fur coat years ago before the trade in fur was exposed for the cruelty involved.i threw mine away and have never worn fur since.i do wear leather however as it is a byproduct of a cow which is going to be slaughtered for meat anyway.but ive seen footage of both fur farms and animals like the beautiful arctic fox, caught in snares and traps.imho fur looks good on the animal it belongs to,NOONE ELSE

Sorry , call me a coward if you like , but there is NO WAY I could watch this programme

I `well up` just thinking about it , and to see such sights as have been mentioned in the press would give me sleepless nights .

All I /we can do is not buy any off these things and let retailers know WHY we arnt buying them

Said I wouldnt didnt I , !!!!! Put BBC 1 on for 2 mins and saw chinese  kick a cage full of terrified dogs    ,Cried immediatley and turned it off , that sight will stay with me all night now , WHY didnt I do what i said I was going to do (w00t) :'( :'( :'(

I was channel hopping several years ago and there on the screen was a GSD being skinned alive. I'll never forget that sight of that dog's face whilst it was being done and once it had no fur on it. I just hope that it's death was quick once it had gone into shock.

I have mixed views on this,

I don't mind people wearing properly farmed mink/rabbit fur IF they have had a good life, been well cared for and are killed humanly, I personnely wouldn't wear fur as I just don't like the look of it,

I don't however like the cat and dog fur (and above all they are PETS!), or ANY indangered animal fur/skin, the way they are killed also upsets me, horrific conditions they were in too!

I eat meat and wear leather as I know they are killed properly and have had a good life, they are not mistreated like them poor cats and dogs :(

Sorry, however they are farmed fur is meant to be worn on animals NOT people.

What is the difference between a cat or dog skinned alive for its fur than a mink/rabbit whatever, most of the cats/dogs are farmed in the same way as mink /rabbits & not family pets!

You eat meat & wear leather cos quote " they are killed properly"!!!!

Yeah right! Have you seen footage of an abbattoire ? Think again!

You wil NEVER stop people eating meat or wearing fur or leather, it is THEIR perocative, BUT please dont fool yourselves or ANYONE else!

I'm not fooling myself OR trying to fool others, this is the way I feel, it's MY and only MY opinion, I'm not speaking for anyone else other than myself!

Heather even said in the program that the dogs and cats are PETS they are not farmed, I don't eat cows or sheep that are SKINNED alive, our law WON'T allow that, they are shot right between the eye's and die instantly, they are NOT mistreated.

this is my view, my opinion.

Killed properly i dont think so, i used to drive for a butcher, i had to visit the abbatoir on several occasions, there was this cow with the despatch gun to its head it failed to go off after several attempts, so the butchers rallied round and clubbed it to death,

My apologies Tina, i re-read my post & it did sound harsh, it wasnt directed personally at you.

Thing is unless you have seen footage of abbattoires, they are NOT all killed humanely, many strung up whilst still alive with their throats cut, left bleeding to death.

Sometimes you can be lulled in to a false sense of security

thank you for explaining that to me Nina, as proberly alot of other people don't know what goes on in a slaughter house either including me!

I did however watch a RSPCA training program once that had students goto a slaughter house and have to kill a cow, that's all I have known and thought that, that's the way they all do it, and had no other reason not to beleive it wasn't done like that.

i cant watch it either.i watched the program a couple of years ago about the dogs in korea being kept for meat.the images are still with me. :( dogs in cages with broken legs/tails,no treatment and being beaten to death in front of other dogs so they were terrified in order to tenderise the meat as they believe that if the animal is terrified before it is killed then it will taste better.i remember seeing a woman peddling away on a bicycle with a dead dog shed just ordered to be killed for her family meal, put into the carrying basket on her bike.i wept all the way through the program and i can never forget it.i just feel so helpless knowing i cant stop it. :'( :'( :'(

i watched the apprentice too dessie!ruth to win!yay!!!!!!!!!!

I didn’t know if I could watch it, but thought if it gets too upsetting I’ll have to turn it off. Those terrible images stay with you a long time. I did manage to see all of it, but there was some barbaric cruelty footage which had to be shown to get the point across. I felt big admiration for Paul and Heather, who work so hard at getting the message across and making people realise just what barbarism these domestic animals suffer in China for the sake of vanity.

I would never wear any kind of real fur, even if it were raised and killed "humanely". Mink and Chinchilla spend there whole life in a small cage going stir crazy, how can this be called humane.

Unfortunately i know a guy from the local area who works in a slaughter house & he has gone into great detail about EXACTLY what happens & i must add he takes GREAT enjoyment in just how they suffer, infact seems to "get off on it"

I just wish theyhad had more stringent policies on the people they hire to do this job :(

but you could also say the same for pet rats/hamsters/rabbits etc, are they not kept in small cages for life?

Well, yes if I have to be honest. Keeping a rabbit in a hutch 24/7 is not much of a life is it. I really hate to see budgies in small cages too, they have wings and are meant to fly.

But i would hope all these type of animals if looked after PROPERLY as PETS would all be allowed a cetain kind of "freedom" each day & NOT killed in a horrific way
