Me and my hubby have signed the petition and printed off 2 letters (one each) ... each one posted, must surely help the cause?

Unfortunately, I think the Chinese (broadly speaking) can be very cruel as a race ... they don't seem to care much for human rights (ie their cruelty towards the Tibetan people, etc) so they are going to care even less for treating animals properly.

I could not have watched that programme, like others on here I find the images so disturbing and they stay with me for a long time. the worst thing is to see an animal (or person) suffer, and not be able to go in straight away and put an end to that suffering.

But, it is admirable I think, that people can make programmes such as these, and that people will watch them - it's the only way to raise awareness of these cruel, barbaric practices.

Going to email the link to my friends and family now.

i watched the programme and was so upset it kept me awake most of the night, i ended up watching a film at 3 am.

i have signed the petition but like so many others would like to do more. i totally admire Heather Macartney and although i feel so upset after seeing the programme i hope by making awareness it helps these poor animals.

I have just signed the petition as well and will send a couple of letters as well. It is surely better than doing nothing.

I am sooo pleased more people are aware from watching this program- other things we can ALL do is when shopping look at labels on jumpers as rabbit fur is some times used, ask what the fur is on boots, scarfs, bags, coats, gloves,i work in retail and believe me all is not always as it seems. If shop assistants cant tell you what the fur is or the label does not say BEWARE!! The other one to look out for is furry toys.

Is'nt it so sad that the rich and famous feel that its a STATUS thing it makes them feel "they have made it" it just tells me volumes about what kind of very very sad self consuming people they all are.

hmmmm..............i think this thread is taking on decidedly rascist tones here

When you hear how a culture behave so brutal and inhumane towards these innocent animals doesn't it just make you want to hate the people responsible. if thats racism, so be it.

 Totally agree.

How can you talk about racism??

Its a certain culture of people who carry out these atrocities so you can only speak as you find.

If it were ALL nations then you would condemn ALL exactly the same!

Its not racism, its FACT!

You only condemn them that commit & if it happens to be a certain culture then i'm sorry BUT those are the ones to condemn.

On this particular subject i dont see the Continentals commiting such acts or Americans or Jamaicans blah di blad di blah?

Its in NO WAY being racist, merely hi-lighting the culture that inflicts these atrocities.

For the do-gooders out there so concerned with racism & these poor people.................SPARE A THOUGHT FOR THE POOR SUFFERING ANIMALS INSTEAD

silly me - here i was thinking it was the FUR TRADERS that the programme was about, not the entire culture. I for one find it perfectly possible to condemn those responsible without insulting others who happen to be of the same nationality.......and that makes me a do-gooder? well, so be it

Funny how people's posts about equally grizzly things going on in British abbetoires didn't elicit the same type of rascist slurs - "well what do you expect from a load of hypercritical pseudo-animal loving whinging pomme b******ds?"...........nope, I didn't read that either!

when it's 'us Brits' who have done something we react as if it's those proverbial few bad apples, if those bad apples are jonny foreigners the whole damn race gets maligned.

This forum does have rules about offensive posts, "Personal, Racial, Ethnic, and/or Gender based insults, slurs, or derisive comments." A comment that was posted and then quoted by others most defininately fell into that category.

I knew when i posted that people would get angry with me ............however, the posts i was referring to have since been removed, so for people who didn't read the thread earlier this will make no sense, nor will my objections to it.

I'm with you on this as my brother has also lived for the last 15 years travelling between theses countries ie: Korea, Singapore, China, Thailand all over & has now returned home.

Unfortunately cos of his job he had to stay out there BUT says many a day he was sickened by what he saw & the people out there reactions to it.

They do NOT treat animals kindly & even those with pedigree dogs as pets see no wrong in dogs being bred to be skinned alive for either fur or meat.

The sooner people get their head around the fact that their culture is NOT like ours

the better.

The people that work in this environment actually take great pleasure in what they do whilst others stand watching & laughing egging them on.

I'm sorry but in 2006 these people have NOT moved on & if by saying that i am a racist then so be it.

People make comparisons to this country BUT on the whole although animals are killed over here for food its done on the whole a lot more damn humanely than out there.

Yes i dont doubt that there is still suffering & some of the people NOT the nicest & again probably enjoy their work BUT over there it is common practice to inflict as much pain as possible with absolutely NO thought to the welfare of the animal at all.

I'm sorry BUT speak as you find & until i meet one of this culture who actually admit that they see the wrong in whats going on (which i never have) my views will stay the same.

totally agree.to brand all people in a country with the language and slurs i saw on this thread IS racist.to say someone is cruel is one thing to call them slitty eyed barstewards is another.there seems to be a lot of xenophobia here. :( would we like it if we were all branded blood maddened dog fighters and fox hunters ?no of course not!and like all generalities it wouldnt be true.i have lots of chinese and korean friends and business associates and they hate animal cruelty and are ashamed of what goes on in their country.same as im ashamed to be part of a country called a nation of animal lovers and witness cruelties beyond belief like the greyhound rusty, shot with a staple gun and his ears cut off while still alive and left to die alone in a field. HATE THE SIN,LOVE THE SINNER!

i dont care white ,black ,etc

AS AN ANIMAL LOVER i hate seeing and hearing of animal abuse it goes on here and abroad just as bad ,its sad to say but its how we are bred some people think its fine to abuse animals and its not their is good and bad in all what ever colour we are

sign the petition

I believe animal cruelty and indifference to animal welfare is just a way of life in China. A dog can be brutaly killed in a busy street and no one even bats an eyelid at such a sickening sight. Animals and birds are sold live in markets all over China and kept in barbaric conditions up until they die. If some one tied a dog to a railing in a busy street in Britain and began hacking away at it with a large knife, I think they would be arrested pretty quickly for such inhumane cruelty and probably lynched by the public to boot.

Maybe the Chinese who live in Britain are more compassionate towards animals, but back in China a dog or cat or any living creature come to that is regarded as a completely worthless soul and is only put on this earth to be of use to them, whether it be meat or fur. This is their culture, children are brought up with the cruelty as a normal way of life so it just goes on. They feel not an ounce of compassion for animals and laugh at us for loving animals.

sign the petition and then?

They probably end up binned like the rest of them which have been sent for many years & the cycle continues.

Until the Chinese Government can see that there is wrong in whats going on you are wasting your time
