A young lad who worked for me some years ago--- breeds staffs and his dad before him did also ---he has told me on many occassion that it is a fault with staffs -that they are great with people and children but not many like other dogs ---his are always on a lead as he says they cost him a small fortune ---so he looks after them as all dogs are unpredictable --- no one can know what they will do next-- better safe than sorry is the term he used.

My aunty had a Staffie (Wesley) for years and i trusted him 100% with the kids when they were little and also played in the garden regular with my whippets..

Its all to do with the breeding and handling of dogs ..not just staffies but every breed...Blue Goblin would kill any other breed...infact Ive found most whippets hate any other breed other than there own.

We hope to have a new whippet pup soon ( fingers crossed ) When she comes home she will meet the staff straight away, and like Emma probably sleep with him while she is tiny. But we wont beable to let the pup near two of our whippets untill the pup is alittle older, and then we will have to watch them. I agree with Dee whippets can be very funny with other breeds. Tanyia is terrible and goes for everything she see's when she's out walking. She is ok with our staff, but if she's having an off day we have to watch her. We are lucky our staff is very tollerant

never heared of staffs used for badgers :( but i know a lot of lads that cross them with lurcher's and greyhounds mainly for hunting, with good results and i dont mean badger baiting as its the most terrible pass time anyone could have  not all staffs are bad same as rottys ect i think a lott of owners are at fault and give a lott of dogs a bad name :- "

Firstly to say I love Staffies and think that it is the people not the dogs that are at fault and the sort of people who choose Staffies (or rotweillers, GSDs etc) want an aggressive macho looking do and that is where it goes wrong.

Secondly I know of quite a few people with Bull lurchers for killing badgers, and think this is one of the reasons for breeding this cross.

Maybe wish I ain't started this topic...However Staff's do attract the worst owners, which may well be the problem....CHAVS and all that...me? well I wouldn't have one, but each to their own I suppose..

ive had staffies, alsation, and doberman dogs, and believe me non were as bad as

my whippets and greyhounds towards other dogs :b

i used to have a staffie bitch and she lived with my whippets and i had no trouble with her.but dogs are like humans u get good and bad in all no matter how u bring them up.

It dos Karen. Our staff is 40lb and very strong , if he were crossed with a hunting dog (w00t) well I dread to think.

he might be 40ld but our lacey will sort him out lol shes a little bully and he was so sweet with her

:D Wendy that was really funny, Lacey not evan half the size of him lol. I wish I had the camera with me that day.

Hi Neil long time no see :) Your right mate

well shes usd to keeping 70+lb greyhounds in place a tinny staffy was no problem for her i allways wonder weather all whippets were as fisty our is it just lacey. there was no way hes was going to argue back with her shes even put my uncals saffy in there palce quite a few times. think i might have to get one of them tuff looking harness for her with studs on and walk round like i have piles cos my whippets a staffy basher lol

at the end of the day...I suppose it's back to the owners, and yes I do agree my whippet and pup hate other breeds, but they do stay away from them...

staffs, and their like are too often in the wrong hands, and they are so powerful...

Patterdale terriers are the main dog used in badger baiting, as they are small but very strong almost like a cross between a staffie and a jack russell

Hope you didnt mind me joing in this conversation - I know all staffs arnt horrible but I was scared to death of them after Chip my old dog was attacked by one too

When your dog goes through this - its understandable.
