well I think for some pupils its maybe a safety thing...when parents work etc.

My son dosnt really need his to be honest.... and if they were banned from schools it probably would be a good idea, but thats just my opinion.

Just speaking as a teacher... kids nick things, some kids are not brought up well. I would suggest a cheap pay as you go if its needed for emergencies (mind you we all coped at school before mobiles were invented) and leave the other phone at home during the day. Teachers and schools really cannot and shouldnt be responsible for this sort of stuff when it goes missing.

The school allows phones to be taken but they have to be switched of during the day.

And yes he does need his phone at school. Although he does kick boxing he has been bullied at school even followed home at night. When I say bullied I mean to the extent that another pupil blamed him for deleting a fellow pupils work of his work site which he hadn't done. The pupil responded by knocking my son out. If that had happened on his way home we would never have known about it.

Also no one has held the school or the teachers responsible for it.

We went into a shop yesterday that sells second hand phones the only one in the town. He has told us to take in the EMI number for the phone and if anyone tries to sell it he'll take it of them and phone us.

Schools should be responsible for tracking down the perpetrator(s) whatever it is that has been stolen and for the welfare of each and every child in that school. If children who are stealing whilst at school are not stopped and taught the difference between right and wrong what are they going to be like in the big wide world. It is too easy just to sit back and say it is not our responsibility. Whilst those children are in school, they are the school's responsibility. At the end of the day THEFT IS THEFT.

We allow our kids to take their phone's to school as they may need to get in touch with us when walking too or home from school.
